Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong confirmed this morning that he has been hired as the new head coach at Louisville.

"It's a great opportunity for me,'' he said. "I think I'm going into a situation where I have great support and great resources to win. And it's also a good chance to build a program.''

Strong will travel to Louisville for a press conference this afternoon to officially announce his hiring and has reserved further comment until then. He must also be formally approved by the school's athletic association.

Strong did add that he has been given the opportunity to coach in the Jan. 1 Sugar Bowl against Cincinnati and plans to accept.

Awesome opportunity for him. Surprised it's taken this long.

I will be curious to see how UF's defense looks next season....the loss of Mullen seems to have affected the offensive game plan.

Nice little coaching tree for Meyer. Sanford at UNLV, Mullen at MSU, Strong at Louisville.

Tebow gone will make the offensive game plan look really different for Florida.

I wouldn't credit Strong's head coaching opportunities to Meyer.

I realize you lost talent, but there seemed to be no thought behind the offensive gameplan other than run Tebow.

Why not? He wasn't hired as a HC during his time under Spurs or Zook. You can give Corch a tad bit of credit can't you.

Great hire for the shittiest fan base in the world.

Hopefully he'll get asses in the stands, because they used to give away tickets with taco's at taco bell or with milk at Kroger.

Interested to see him coach 2-3 star players with his system. All he has to do is win in the Big East though, it's defiNitely not the SEC.

Its about time. Is there really any doubt he would have had a head coaching gig before now if he was white?

Another thing...this has to prove conclusively that Urban has no plans to go to Notre Dame. Strong wouldn't have left if he thought if he had any indications that job was going to open up any time soon....(you know he went to Urban for advice and as a sounding board)

No give Strong credit, he has been a great DC everywhere he has gone regardless of head coach and has earned it.
Where as everyone saw how well the Patriots were doing under Belichik with Weis as his O-Cord. so ND just assumed he'd be a good hire.

He's a classy guy and deserves it. I wonder if Meyer is rethinking the ND job?
