And now that I have you in here lets take a look at where Arkansas and Ole Miss are headed.
2008-Year One
Ole Miss: Nutt wins 9 games with Coach O's players that were poised to succeed even if O stuck around (Much like he won 10 games with Danny Ford's in year one at Arkansas) and a strength of schedule that would be called "moderate" at best.
Arkansas: Petrino wins 5 games with a scorched earth football program, starting more Freshmen and True Freshmen than any team in the country, and a strength of schedule that ended at #5 in the country
2009- Year Two
Ole Miss: With a "Heisman" QB, the 2nd weakest schedule in the SEC, a veteran program, BCS dreams, and a ranking as high as #4, Ole Miss finishes the season hoping for a 9th win. This will be a 1 game decline, if not on par with last season.
Arkansas: Starting more underclassmen than any team in the SEC, and 2nd in the nation, Petrino has seen a 2 game regular season improvement, with an 8th win almost guaranteed in the Liberty. This will be a 2 to 3 game improvement, all in the face of the #3 strength of schedule in the nation.
2010- Year Three
Ole Miss: Snead will be back because the QB killer has once again helped a kid digress. Ole Miss is looking at a season between 6 and 8 wins, with one of the tougher SEC schedules and a roster depleted of playmakers. This will be a 1 or 2 game decline from year two and 2 to 4 game decline from year one.
Arkansas: Arkansas returns more starters than any team in the SEC and has a schedule written in crayon. Mallett will return and even if he didn't, Petrino has 2 QB's waiting in line to lead the SEC in passing. Arkansas, IMO, is looking at around 10 wins post-bowl. This is a 2 game increase from year two and a 5 game increase from year one.
And for shits and giggles:
Job interest-
Petrino: Arkansas
Nutt: Ole Miss, Kansas
In other words, you are in an obvious decline as year two will be worse than year one and year three will most certainly be the worst of them all.
Don't worry though, Nutt did it to us at Arkansas. Year one was electric. Year two was failed expectations. Year three was the Las Vegas Bowl and 6 wins.

Given our youth, and the expected drop off of talent in Oxford next year, those stats suggest to me that Nutt left Arkansas in a ditch and rode a wave in Oxford left by Shrek which is about to crash onto the seafloor.

You might want to hold you tongue on that one. Give him another year to gain back credibility and he will do to Arky the same that he did at Louisville.

Really?
Isn't the 3rd year the best barometer year to indicate which way a program is heading? Year one and two the coach either benefits from a strong upper class the previous coaching staff left or is in a rebuilding mode because of what the previous staff left. Let’s see how next year pans out before we proclaim which coach has the program heading in the right direction. I think the evidence will be crystal clear.

IMO year 5 is when to judge a coaches performance, unless he is completely running it in the ground. Or of course you are Saban...

To me it appears that each program is heading in different directions but I'm willing to wait until next year to proclaim that. After next year’s season just graph the wins for the last three seasons and insert a trend line on the graph. That will clearly illustrate which program improved during the 3 years and which one didn't.
For those laughing at a 10 win season for the Hogs next year consider this. We won seven games this year by playing Florida but next year we drop Florida and pick up Vandy (although I would really like to play Florida again next year).
That switch in teams should give the Hogs a win next year that they didn't have this year but we shall see. With that being said I'll be the first to admit that just because we beat a team this year like USC, Auburn, and Miss. State doesn't mean that we will beat them again next year and vice versa. However, I do like the Hogs' chances against those teams next year as well as against some of the teams we lost to this year.
It’s certainly reasonable to expect that the Hogs can win 10 games next year if you look at it from the following perspective.
• 4-0 in NC Games (Tennessee Tech, Louisiana Monroe, T. A & M, UTEP)
• 3-0 in these Conference Games (at Georgia, Ole Miss, and Vandy)
• I think we will win at least 3 of the 5 games between Bama, at Auburn, at USC, at State, and LSU.
- I really like the way we match up against Auburn, USC, and State next year even thought we play them on the road.
- The Hogs are certainly capable of beating LSU at Home next year as well as Bama but the Bama game will be much, much tougher to win.
So, when you look at the match-ups we are very capable of winning 10 games or more next year but there is a lot that has to fall right to do so. But to laugh at that possibility is just ignorant and uninformed.
