There really isn't a dispute, it's more along the lines of nobody thinks Alabama was the national champion that year.

I have real beef with a few other titles, but it's getting too late to argue this topic for the umpteenth time, so we can continue our discussion later.

(I will say that some of the titles, such as 1973, irk me because Alabama lost to the true national champion in their bowl game, but the UPI was still being primitive and awarding pre-bowl game national titles. However, I guess it counts, even though as a guy viewing from outside the box it looks wrong. At least that year caused the UPI to get their heads out of their asses and award after the bowl game.)
