Slive - Lord King of the SEC world - & the Kiffin rule

Thou shall not speak, sayeth the SEC overlord.
Yes, I'd like for someone to severe Lame Kiffen's vocal chords as much as the next guy, but to now treat grown ups like children, by telling them to just shut up?
Its a bit absurd and hardly going to shut up some of the elder statemen, should they get a horrendous call that costs them a game. I think a reporter asking a question about the officiating, is fair game. To now make your coaches "patently lie" about their true feelings, and declare that the officials were just really swell, come on - lets get real.
Of course, this all goes back to Kiffin doesn't it? If he would have just shut his mouth, and waited for a truly egregious call that went against him, it would have been okay. Instead he had to act like a damn child, suggesting the fix was in, and that the officials were out to get him and his team.
Because of Kiffin's childish behavior, now Slive decides to treat all the kids in the class the same. This is a mistake. You don't punish all the kids in the class for the spitball, just the punk who threw it. And I do think that Kiffin's complaints are much more so of a different nature than Petrino's or Mullen's.
As I said, I am sure Spurrier, Myles, Saban, Nutt, amongst the others, are highly unamused that they will have to be muzzled the rest of the year - all because of Monte's kid.

What ISN'T Kiffin's fault?
Posted on 10/30/09 at 3:18 pm to Templars
There are plenty of unethical members of the media out there who will carelessy or even intentionally exploit every opportunity to tarnish the image of various SEC coaches, SEC schools and the SEC as a whole. That's why the SEC should have a near zero tolerance policy for AD personnel, coaches, players, etc. criticizing officials and fellow coaches in the media. Slive's suggested change to stiffen the penalties for doing so was an excellent move and that's why it was unanimously approved by the ADs and university presidents. Arguments that it is necessary to make such noise in order to achieve improvements in the quality of SEC officiating are invalid.

There is little doubt that the comments Kiffin made are clearly what pushed Slive over the edge.
In a free society, people have a right to speak their minds. Instead of trying to shut people up - hit the problem directly - improve officiating and criticism will go away.
I don't care who voted for it, its a stupid overbearing move. If Slive can't take the heat get the hell out of the kitchen. Coaches should be allowed to have their say - so long as it does not go overboard - as Kiffin clearly has.
Kiffin, should have been suspended. THAT would have been enough of a MESSAGE!

I agree. Much of the media looks for anything to discredit the SEC. We all cheat; crooked officiating; Miles is an idiot; Saban is a liar; Kiffin this; Spurrier that; no academic standards etc. My favorite is since the SEC has clearly established itself beyond a doubt as the best conference, "it's cyclical".

It's Kiffin's fault because he went much farther than merely complaining about a call. First he said he did not throw a pass late against 'Bama because he knew his team would draw a penalty, thus implying that the officials were crooked -- which is very different than saying they made a bad call. Then he compounded it by saying his remarks would get him one of those worthless letters from the SEC office, thus thumbing his nose at the Commissioner and the entire conference.
Other coaches have publicly complained about a call. And when they get the letter from the Commissioner, they settle down and are appropriately contrite. No other coach has ever suggested the officials are crooked or biased, nor has any coach ever stated he was beyond the disciplinary authority of the SEC.
Kiffin is amazing. He really has no clue. There are some lines you just do not cross.

No doubt about it!
All the kooks soon come out of the woodwork like "templars" to blame CLK for not being able to publicly criticize officials (which was against the rules anyway)
If people want to believe that Miles has no sac and wont call out the officials next week if they cost him the bama game, then that's their problem.
Rest assured, SEC head coaches arent scared of a fine... and they WONT get suspended especially if the call was obviously blown.
"SEC = South Eastern Communism" my arse. Slive cant hire and fire anyone and there is no reason to cower in the wake of his grandstanding.

Look hick, your obvious inbred, but I don't threaten to suspend you for giving your albeit stupid opinion.
And thank god there are reasonable people on here like the Gamecock poster above. Tennessee fans would be better served admitting they have a punk for a coach, in over his head, and who is where he is because of daddy.

While I do feel that Kiffin's a cock sucker, this is bullshite. The officials are getting paid to do a job that they obviously aren't doing very well. These coach's jobs are dependent on these incompetent officials getting their calls correct, so I feel they have the right to call them out when they screw up. Slive obviously isn't going to handle it himself. Not like this is a new development.

Severe?
And substitute totally disinterested for highly unamused. Everything else is spot on. Sorta.

Good to see some agree. I think the league should have suspended Kiffin for a week - and sent a strong message that a little criticism that is well placed and understanable, is a FAR cry from outright suggesting the fix is in.
It's embarrassing Tennessee itself, has had no comment. What's wrong with Mike Hamilton, the lap dog AD these days? For his sake, Kiffin better produce, because his future at the school is clearly tied to Kiffen's.

I agree.
Little kiffy suggested Bama and UF pretty play by different rules as set by the SEC.
Over the top plus it fuels fans outrage of the SEC...including outside the SEC.
Little kiffy has a big-mouth that's needs buttoning up.
Spurrier-type bards like, you can't spell Citrus w/o UT are harmless.
Constantly accusing people of cheating is out-of-bounds!

Don't be a dumbass. Of course it's his fault. Who the frick is Slive talking to? Kiffin, because he can't keep his ignorant mouth shut. Do you think this would have happened if young skippy hadn't been stirring up trouble all week?

Thats totally wrong, of course they're valid. Whats not valid is the argument that quietly and meekly taking it up the rear like its always has been done will get anything changed. What incentive does Slime have to change the status quo?
His feet needs to be held to the fire to get him to move on this. has there ever been any truer axiom than THE NOISY WHEEL GETS THE GREASE
