How does he do this? I'm starting to believe the hype from all of the Arkansas fans. Is it because of the playcalling or something else?

He turns them into game managers and teaches them how to not lose games instead of how to win them. Kills their confidence and there you have it.

You would think a good qb coach could overcome it though

2 things I've noticed about the Ole Miss offense.... the OL play isn't very good, and there's absolutely no imagination scheme/play-calling wise.

These two really aren't helping Snead at all... open things up a little bit and get Snead into a rhythm. I'm just not sure Austin and Nutt are capable.

I can tell what play is getting ran before they snap the ball.

HDN is not a QB killa, he has a ball control philosophy and needs a QB to safely distribute the ball when called upon.

HDN will develop OM's team and you will be well pleased. In fact, I would sign him to a contract extension through 2019.

Here are Nutt's starting QBs when he was at Arkansas:

Clint Stoerner- Good QB, but he didn't develop him.
Zak Clark- Who?
Tavaris Jackson- Had to transfer to a SWAC school.
Matt Jones- Great athelete. Not a great QB.
Robert Johnson- Worst QB i have ever seen.
Mitch Mustain- transferred after 1 season.
Casey Dick- Yeah...

QB KILLA! Hell, even Clint Stoerner digressed his senior season.

There is a rest of the story too.

Look at the RBs,
Madre Hill
Cedric Cobbs
Fred Tally
Peyton Hillis
Felix Jones
Darren McFadden.

There are a lot more I'm forgetting like Birmingham, but you get the drift.

Sign Hootie, I mean Houston to an extension and never let him go.

Well, you could look at it positively and say 3 of those QBs were drafted

Nutt recognizes who his playmakers are and who he trusts with the football. In doing so he mandates the QB key on those players more and calls plays based upon situations. Defenses see Nutt's tendencies rather easily.

Snead is being taught to read his players more than the defense itself...in other words, read Hodge and McCluster first and second, then stop. Patterson is not being used much at all...and should be.

What you are left with is Snead running Nutt plays through Bolden and McCluster for the majority leaving Snead to find desperate ways to get the ball out of his hands after he sees a breakdown. He then forces the ball or tucks and runs.

You are what you practice.

Excellent post. I think that's exactly what I've kind of realized but I couldn't verbalize it. That's exactly why so many of his picks are plays where the receiver appears to be open, but a DB runs in front of the pass. And, like you said, he only looks to ONE receiver the entire time and everybody in the stadium knows where the ball is going.

SS, while Dick was a fair to spare QB you knew he wasn't as bad as he looked. But when you are taught AND told to key on players exclusively, especially during down and distance situational plays being signaled in, it became a recipe for fail. Dick practiced to fail.

Ala Stoerner and Jones, Snead's turnovers will now keep Nutt up at night. The bit in Snead's mouth will now be tugged on with more force to avoid mistakes. It will however create more or at least the same amount. Snead will lose confidence in himself, doubt trickles in from the rest of the team (defense) and you now have a mess on your hands. A real mess.

Back to Dick. Again, even a fair to spare can flourish given the opportunity to do so. Confidence goes a long way. Although the W/L didn't reflect it, Dick progressed phenomenally. The difference? Bobby and Paul Petrino. That's it. Nothing more.
