Choctaw I never understood our defense after Kolling, Harper, Boyce left though. It was very simplistic but they combo everything. And after years of knowing a certain defense it was hard for me to understand terminology and things, even though it was basically the same.

Both offenses and defenses are complicated now days but I'm willing to take a few steps back in order to get to where we need to be. This is a pretty simplistic analogy but you will get the point. Take a young kid hitting a baseball. If he has good hand-eye coordination he will have success at an early age even with a mechanically unsound swing. And perhaps that swing will carry him through maybe until he is 11 or 12 years old.

However, in order for that player to have any sort of success when he starts facing pitchers who can throw good breaking pitches, change-ups, sliders, cutters, sinkers, etc. he will have to learn the right way. In order for that player to learn properly he will almost have to relearn how to swing which will actually set him back for a while, perhaps even a year. But, once he learns the proper way his ability to hit good pitching increases significantly. I think it’s much like that in learning complicated Offensive and Defensive sets. We may take a few steps back but once the team learns them the upside will be significant. I think that is where we are right now with the Hogs and Petrino.
