790 the ZONE, Atlanta Sports talk station - Percy Harvin

This station was reporting the Harvin gave a speach to recruits recently where he was supposed to tell them about how great UF is an why they should attend. They claim that during the speech he revealed that one reason they were great to play for is they give 2nd chances..such as they did for him when he CHOKED HIS WR COACH! He also claimed it was a great place to play becuase YOU CAN SMOKE WEED AND NOT GET KICKED OUT!
Anyone else heard this? Apparently they said, "Thanks Percy, see you later" during the middle of his speech.

I thought former players making contact with recruits was a violation anyway? I could be wrong.
I don't see how it wouldn't be. If you can't buy dinner for a kid, I don't see why it would be okay for them to hang out with NFL players coaxing them to attend the school.

It was widely reported that he spoke to the kids at the FNL event a few weeks ago.
If it's a violation it's likely a "secondary"...

Yeah, I wasn't real sure. I just thought I'd heard that before.
I remember a huge deal being made about Tebow talking to a recruit and about Reggie Bush talking to McKnight (all allegedly). It could have been during a down period or something, I'm not real sure.

Apparently former Gator and now Minnesota Viking wide receiver Percy Harvin was invited by some Florida coaches to come speak to a few recruits about his time at the university. The idea was to give them an NFL player’s perspective on how the school helped him not only get to the NFL, but also how they made him a better player in general.Well, things started great as he talked about how good the staff was to the players, how they won a couple championships, and how they helped him become a NFL first rounder…then he started keeping it real.
What we’re hearing:
- Harvin discussed his continuous pot use, and how he was able to smoke it for the majority of his time at UF.
- Harvin also confirmed the long time rumor that he made a mistake and choked his wide receivers coach, and how the school gave him a second chance by covering it up so the media didn’t report it.
- He also talked about the benefits that being a Gator brought to the party scene in Gainesville.
Needless to say, the coaches weren’t very happy. Maybe they should just stick to Tim Tebow at these events?

I have serious doubts about the story, but it is indeed what the 790 The Zone gang was talking about this AM.

Did he speak at the event? I've read on atleast 3 fairly reliable UF "recruiting sites" (1 of them I know to be very reliable) that he did. I just doubt that he'd say that stuff.

I don't know, this is the first I've heard of him speaking at any event. I just can't believe he would say that stuff. For one thing, he would have been pulled once he said just one of the things on that list, the coaches wouldn't let him keep going.

That's what I'm saying, there's no way the coaches would have let him continue after he said the first thing.

I'm guessing he said one of those things, and the coaches pulled it. Harvin's a known dumbass. Despite all his ability, most NFL teams were wary of him due to his "character" issues.

This story is BS. Percy was catching passes with Tebow the day before he left for MN... There's no way the staff would let that happen if it was true.

Of course Tebow talks to recruits; He's a current player. Recruits see him every time they take a visit. There is nothing illegal about that.

Seriously though. Do you really think he would have been allowed any time alone with that many recruits to brag about those types of indiscretions?
