why the hype behind this guy? Some people are talking about this guy like he's going to win the Heisman. Anyone think he may not end up as good as advertised?

Petrino and pro style quarterbacks go great together. I think he will live up to expectations finally.

<====This guy.
Dont get me wrong I think that he will be a good SEC QB. But hes not the next Peyton Manning. If he was really that good he wouldve committed to Bama out high school.

highly recruited player out of HS with good size and arm strength, has some freshman playing experience at a top program, now under a coach known for developing great QBs in a system that puts up big QB numbers. Not that hard to understand.
I think he'll be pretty good, but it would be hard for anybody to live up to the hype.

Just my 2 cents:
-#2 QB in the nation coming out of HS
-6' 7", 248lbs
-Has what is commonly agreed upon to be the strongest arm in college football
-Spent a full year at Michigan and for all intents and purposes has spent two springs, two summers, and one fall running and learning the Bobby Petrino playbook. Point being he isn't a lost, wide eyed Freshman.
-Bobby Petrino

He will have a decent to good junior year but will be lights out his senior year.

this is what i'm expecting, though considering even casey dick had a 'decent' year under petrino, i expect mallett's first to be pretty damn good. but the talent surrounding him is still pretty young.

The question was "why the hype?".
Whether you are a bust or not, hype comes with being sought after.

Crompton certainly had the hype, too.

I only want Mallet to be better than what we've had in the recent past and to be as good as he is capable of being this year. If it's significantly better, then that’s great. You have to remember the numbers Dick put up last year with 3 true freshmen WR contributing heavily and not much depth at the RB spot, especially when Smith went down.
I’m not trying to belittle Casey Dick’s abilities, but he was no Division 1 QB. He just didn’t have the arm strength or the ability to quickly read a defense and call the right audible. Mallet has both and then some.
I’ve heard NFL analysis predict Mallett will be one of the top QB’s taken in the NFL draft when he comes out. Talent, potential and Petrinos’ coaching make for great optimism among Razorback Fans and rightfully so. I think Mallet will have some great games this year and will absolutely torch some SEC defenses but he will probably have a sub-par game or two as well. We can only hope his level of performance is against the right teams.

He couldn't tackle either.

If he has a fairly good year, look for him to consider the NFL.
That could be a possibility and if he is a high draft choice, I would want him to take that opportunity even thougth I would love to have him back for another year. You never know what the future may hold.

Same could be said for RS.
We had Casey F'n Dick for four years.

no shite. I love how on this board any time someone asks a question about one team, someone from said team replies with something about the team asking...

Have you see the tiger rant lately(last few months) about how many heismans RS will have?

Doesn't have a damn thing to do with my team. Unlike RS, Mallett has been around the college game for 3 and a half years.
