Roymon Malcolm, who was one of the greatest high school RBs I've ever seen, was killed in a car wreck near Natchitoches this morning.
He was a big time recruit who ended up signing with Auburn I believe. Led Ruston High to an undefeated record in 1990.

I remember when i was coaching at Thibodaux and he was on that 1990 Ruston team when we played them in the playoffs. He was a good player and they beat us 27-3 and they went on to the dome if i remember. Prayers sent to the family

I remember watching him play at RHS back in the day and i'm telling you, that guy was an amazing player. They finished the season #1 in the nation in '90.

That's sad. If I remember correctly, he originally signed with LSU. His father and I worked for the same company, but in different towns, but I knew his father. When we would see each other I would always ask him about Roymon.

He was on a team that over a dozen players signed to play college ball. LSU players Bobby Williams and Rodney Young were on that team. John Young might have been around the same time. They played Catholic of BR in the finals at the Superdome.
He transfered back to La from Auburn, might have been La. Tech?
An yes Eric Dickerson style running, straight up, head held high.

He did sign with Auburn straight out of high school, mostly because LSU was horrid at the time, and he beat out Stephen Davis to be the starter but then blew out his knee. He recovered and was again on top, but another knee injury came, so he finally transferred to Northwestern to be closer to home as he rehabbed. Narcotic issues derailed that plan. Sad situation from a great player who was on an awesome team in '90, that beat Catholic with Warrick Dunn either 52-10 or 52-14 in the dome.

RIP
And yeah that Ruston team was loaded and Royman did look like an Eric Dickerson clone. He was like 6'3", 215lbs in HS.

Wow, sad stuff
He was one of the best RBs I saw play in high school. Dickerson-esque is accurate. My brother was the fullback at Neville during those days and he to this day says Malcolm was easily the best player he's ever seen and played against...and he played against Kordell Stewart and some other great players.

Damn, I remember him. That 1990 Ruston team was probably the greatest LA high school football team ever.

I still say WM around the turn of the century was the best I saw.. Bradie James and Co. was the best defense I've seen on a high school team

The one that beat Midland Lee 36-8(I was at that game).
then beat Moss Point in Ms.
Both of those teams won state (M-L in Tx and Moss Point in Ms.).

i was at that midland tx and west monroe game in the rain.west monroe won 36-8.but ill tell you after covering hs football since 1986 that ruston was the best louisiana has had.evangel and west monroe can argue and now john curtis can with the team that beat hoover but ill say ruston hands down.

If you pitted the RHS '90 team against the WM team that beat up on Midland a few years back when Ced Benson played for Midland...what a matchup! Malcom against James...that would be a showdown. The Ruston teams of the 80's and 1990 were unbelievable until Chick Childress retired.

yes, that's right. Like you and LSUDad, I was at that game too. I think Cedric Benson had one run early in the game for about 40 yds then was totally shut down by that Rebel D
The Curtis team that beat Hoover would not have been nearly as good without McKnight
Evangel always had some great offensive systems and QBs running them...always had average Ds. WM always had average offenses and good Ds. But that year they had a monster defense with multiple good players and a good offense to match with some solid playmakers
