i had a rough night that night of the midland game.benson did have a early td but was shut down after that.don shows showed his arse after the game. then i went to my hotel room to find that i had no electricity.so we went to another hotel when i found out i left some bags at the room that i had in the 1st place.it was a long night.that team was good but the team from ruston 1990 was the best.and fwiw the team that had whitworth as a sophmore tight end was the best west monroe has had.

.but ill tell you after covering hs football since 1986

Since 86, thats all?

I'll tell what I did. USA Today newspaper had the high school rankings. I sent an E-mail to the guy that did it. I thought the only way to get a reply was to hit him hard.
My E-mail went something like this:

If you keep putting that school from California #1, the newspaper needs to fire you. You know nothing about football.

I was trying to get a reply. It took one day. He wanted to know what the heck I was talking about. Well I threw out the bait and it was my turn to hook him.

I said, " You keep putting this school in Cali #1, they have a North and a South Champion. They don't even play each other, so you don't know if thats the best team in that state. West Monroe beat this years Tx. state champs and went to Moss Point Mississippi and beat them (Who were also #1 in the state of Ms). WM has beaten everyone they have played in the state of La. So how can they not be the #1 team in the nation?

His reply, "My new rankings will be out, you will be pleased!"

I'll just say this...District 2-5A (the old 2-5A) was arguably the best district of football in the country for the last 2 decades. I don't think they ever really got the respect they deserved because they weren't close to the media hubs of the state, but you can't argue with how many state championships they have won (Ruston, Neville, West Monroe, Ouachita). These teams would take the big Catholic S. LA schools out behind the woodshed. Sadly, WM is about the only one still making waves.

exactly... old 2-5A was as compeitive of a league annually as you could find anywhere, that's for sure

Ironically, up until the mid-90s West Monroe and Bastrop were bottom feeders and Neville and Ruston were the historic powers with Ouachita emerging in the late 80s

Now, Bastrop (while in 4A) and West Monroe have probably been the best teams in the state over the course of the last several years (along with Curtis, etc.)

Northeast Louisiana has a lot of football tradition...we used to play all of the bigger Shreveport area schools and know we were going to beat them every time by 5 TDs... same as the big Catholic League schools in the big markets down south.

Per capita, I would bet Northeast Louisiana football is as good as it gets in the nation considering its a pretty small-populated area

yeah, Lakeland was good and is perennially on top of 4A in FL

FL football is the best in the country, hands down...of course they have a ton more population than Louisiana too

St Thomas-Aquinas was amazingly good this past year. That team was as good of a team as I've seen in a while

There really needs to be some sort of national championship game although it would be difficult to do and very unlikely. I get tired of hearing about all of these great football players from California. Those guys seem soft to me...Florida on the other hand, has as much talent as anyone. I live in Dallas, and i went to the first matchup of Allen against Euless Trinity in the regular season this past year. I have never seen quite a crowd and a production as i saw at that game, but IMO, there wasn't a lot of talent out there. I think Allen finished #1 in the nation, but I don't think they could have gotten on the field with a team like West Monroe or any top talent in LA.

I agree...I have a brother that lives in Allen and I've caught some games there, in Dallas and in Plano. Wasn't overly impressed.

FL football is the best I've seen, but the fan support in FL is nothing like it is in Louisiana, TX

The good thing is that LSU can pick from the best in talent rich LA and still swing several top talents from TX every year, along with other SE states. It's a hotbed and the talent is ours to lose. Ready for the season to get started.

It shouldn't be that hard to find them. Just look at LSU's past recruiting classes. I mean, these were Louisiana kids, so they were "going to LSU no matter who was coach", right?
