Last time one SEC school won all three of the 'Big Three'...

...in a single calendar year? LSU is on a roll so far in the 2009 season, winning both the men's basketball and baseball championships (Co-champs with Ole Miss in baseball).
Winning the 2009 SEC championship in football might put the Tigers in uncharted territory.

Is baseball really even part of the "big 3"?
Posted on 5/16/09 at 9:44 pm to Vol92
yes it is. just bc you sick dick in it doesn't mean its not a big sport

I honestly don't think it is...
when you take in to account attendance and revenue I don't see baseball as on of the "big 3"
maybe in the minds of the few baseball fans

Is that a serious question? I'm curious as to what you would put in it's place?
Football, basketball, and baseball are the biggest revenue sports, and the most highly visible team sports virtually everywhere.

i know in 86 LSU went to the Sugar Bowl, Final 4, and the CWS.

Vol92 wants to throw out baseball and replace it with Women's basketball.
Right?

Right?

Women's basketball is bigger from an "ESPN" standpoint and in Tennessee....but baseball is bigger in the rest of the SEC.

there are more than a "few" baseball fans.
its the only logical 3rd sport anyways.
considering that football, basketball, and baseball are known as the big 3

As has been said, if you suck at baseball so badly that it's not one of your three biggest revenue sports, you have deeper issues than you realize.

thats what i was thinking. the tenn fan wants to think a womens sport belongs in the big 3.

I'd rank them
Football
Basketball
Baseball
But outside of those three there is a huge drop off when considering other sports, IMO. That is why they are considered the "Big Three"

LSU SEC Champs:
86 Football
86 Baseball
85 Basketball
I just went down the list. No SEC school since 1933 has ever won all three major sport conference championships in the same year. What I listed above is the closest I could find.

I'll keep looking.
I'm looking too. But if LSU wins the SEC championship in football in 2009, my guess at this point is that will be a first in conference history.

Just finished looking. We would be the first.

We've been to the CWS twice in this decade and even then baseball wasn't a big deal in Knoxville. I'm not saying W Bball should take it's place because I hate fake basketball more than anything in the world, you should hear all the Lady Vol fans in Knoxville it's like a cult. They even have their own Athletic Dep't and logo. They can't accept the fact that they lose money and think Pat Summitt should be paid more than Kiffin and Pearl. It makes me sick. All I'm saying is I think it's more of big 2. Just look at the drop off in interest and coverage nationally. I'm sure there are people in Knoxville and UConn who would consider fake basketball Big 3 but that's not realistic either. I would rank baseball third but I wouldn't call it a part of the big 3. I would call it the third most popular sport. I would say football and basketball are the Dynamic Duo but everything below that is just subjective. I mean Iowa St fans would include wrestling in the Big 3. JMO

Link? Not doubting you, as your usually spot on with your posts, but I'm dealing with a distraction at the moment. And I'm lazy at the best of times. BTW does this mean a t-shirt? (J/K)
