Mallett named as starting qb for this year going into the fall.

I'm concerned about his accuracy inside of 20-30 yards.
From all reports, and the few hundred balls I have seen leave his arm, he can throw it 80 yards from his knees and hit the head of a pin. But I've also seen him throw interceptions in short yardage situations that most novice QB's wouldn't have a problem with.
His passes are also 90mph whether the receiver is 5 or 50 yards away.
He could shatter every passing record we have (which aren't that great in the first place) if he tightens his game.

From the looks of things we have probably the most solid #2 QB in the West

DC sorry about that. It was unexpected offer. Still working for golfing invite. I was supposed to be in Dallas this weekend with 2 members for a golf tournament but had to back out. Hope they don't hold it against me.
That's cool, judge.

Yeah, hopefully that can be worked out. Or I wonder if Petrino would consider a 2 QB system? I don't think he's ever done that, though huh?

Yes he has...even mentioned in his press conference today...something to "if the season started Saturday I would bring in Wilson the first series of the 2nd quarter..."
He did it for most of one season while at UL

Great, playing Petrino is not going to be fun now that he actually has a qb. So what you will about the guy but he is one of the brightest offensive minds in the leauge...if not the brightest.

Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
I have been told more than once that was gay (by LSU fans) so I better stop now....

Saying he will be 2nd best QB in the West is a bit presumptuous. I would rank them: Snead, then Jefferson at this point. Neither Mcelroy or Mallett have enough meaningful snaps under center to make that assertion. I know Jefferson has only a few, but you at least saw what he's capable of- only time will tell.
One other thing- he sounds like another J. Russell clone. Great at throwing the deep ball, but makes stupid short range passes. And Russell had a problem throwing the ball too hard at 10 yds away. I'm still shocked Early Doucet caught that pass against UT in 2006. I swear it was going 100 mph.

I'm pretty sure he was saying that Wilson is the best backup (or #2) QB in the West. Not that Mallett is the #2 QB, but really why could he not be. I'll give you Snead, but Jefferson hasn't had that many more snaps than Mallett has.
