If you read one post in there it says that the SEC has "wide open offenses that put up 55 points a game and no defense. Pretty laughable for the most part.

Have they actually seen a SEC game? There was about six SEC teams that finished among the top thirty defenses in the country in 2008.

BUT I've grown tired of the media discounting all the other conferences/teams as inferior to the SEC. The SEC has a lot of good teams, but I think the perception of a talent "gap" between the SEC and other conferences has gotten laughable.

That pretty much explains it all. It's become fashionable around the country to say that the SEC's speed and talent is overrated, just because sports announcers mention it so much (and everybody naturally wants to oppose anything that becomes a cliche amongst moronoic sports announcers).

Unfortunately, the cliche is true in this case. You just can't have 8+ teams in the top 25 recruiting classes every year without somehow getting a more talented conference as a result.

All the analyses done with 40 times don't mean jack shite, because people always lie about their 40 times anyway. SEC coaches know whom to take and whom not to take.

Sure the CBs and WRs might be comparable in 40 times, but that's why the SEC goes the extra mile and gets the ones that are stronger, or can juke more.

Sure the lineman might be about the same size, but that's why the SEC goes the extra mile and gets the ones that are faster and more agile.

The proof is what happens on the field, and no conference has ever dominated in bowl games anything like what the SEC has done this decade.

If anything, the biggest mystery is why the SEC doesn't do even better in regular-season OOC games given their talented recruiting classes. I think it has a lot to do with mental preparation and concentrating more on other SEC foes, and other teams being more pumped up about playing an SEC team than vice-versa.

Just my two cents.

the big 10 is not laughable. If you look up its record over the years its play against the sec is quite good.

Ask Troy Smith about SEC linemen that chased him like a wounded gazelle with relative ease all over the field.

Ask all that speed from Oklahoma what SEC speed looks like up close.

Ole Miss speed made Tech look like they were running with ankle weights.

It's laughable at best. tHE SEC flat out destroys the Big 10 in terms of speed and overall athleticism.

Ohio St. played 2 years in a row for the NC against Florida/LSU and could beat either SEC team.

Mike Wallace posted the third or fourth fastest time ever at the combine.

Comparing 40 times of players from northern states and southern states is stupid.

Compare 40 times of SEC players and Big 10 players.
Southern players might be slower.
But SEC gets first pick. We get whoever we want.
The speed difference is in the big guys anyways.
Both of Ole Miss's outside linebackers run in the 4.4-4.5 range, Greg Hardy runs in the 4.6 area and he's 260 lbs.
Ole Miss is only middle of the road as far as team speed.

even better in regular-season OOC

I can answer that one vs Clemson.. quite frankly SC coaches and media push "Lets be SEC Champs! Lets be SEC Champs! Clemson isnt that important! Just a regular season game"

Now the main goal for both schools is to win their respective conference championships.. however neither school has done a very good job of that but the difference is.. Clemson realizes this and seems to at least figure "well lets go kick SCs arse and get another win and a bigger bowl" while the SC players seem to buy into "well we're not SEC champs.. and Clemson is just another OOC opponent" hence the effortlessness you saw at last years game.

It also should be noted that SC seems to get the majority of its recruiting class from FL and other out of state schools (especially since Spurrier got here) but most in the in-state talent goes to Clemson. It may not seem like that big of a deal but those kids were raised on the rivalry and know how big of a game it is. If your from the state of FL and here "Clemson isnt that big of a game" and were never raised on the rivalry.. chances are you'll give a lackluster effort.

The best example of this is our former RB Mike Davis.. he may have no had the most stellar career.. and was a disapointment last year.. but for through his 4 seasons at SC, he always had his best game or at least showed the most effort vs Clemson. Guess where he's from? thats right.. Columbia, SC.

But we seem to have been getting more in-state recruits (in particular Jarvis Giles) so I hope that will change.

Long story short.. I think we would just fare better vs Clemson if we played them at the beginning of the year annually while we are still pumped up and have the hopes of having a big season. (though I wouldnt change having it at the end of the season if i could)

Edit - Damn sorry.. didnt realize how long that post was until i posted it.

True. You also have to take in the fact that Walker would most likely play safety at most SEC schools. Our Running Backs and Wide Recievers (aside for Mike Wallace) arent the fastest around but the Techsters made McCluster look like Percy.

Dexter is more quick than he is fast.
He probably doesn't have but the 4th or 5th best 40 on the team.

I don't think so. He's a little on the small side, but has the tackling ability to play linebacker. He'd play safety at every big six team except Auburn and maybe Tennessee. He probably wouldn't start at Tennessee.

Ya Tennessee has a guy named Berry back there. But I think if he where at Fla, UGA, LSU or Bama hes a safety.

Urban loved him at safety when Florida was recruiting him. He made the move to LB due to depth issues at Ole Miss.

Every year about this time, fans of tOSU, as well as rest of the Big 10, become afflicted with this selective amnesia about how crappy their league performed in the BCS Bowl games.

Ya. I was shocked when he choose us. But we must insulted OB's coaches daughter soon after. Cuz we can get any of those kids now.
