I guess I'd been living under a rock because I had no idea the GBI had found the person who killed her and he's currently being tried.

I was in school and remember her being killed. I had a friend who was living off North Avenue at time. The night before Tara was murdered, my friend woke up to someone having broken into her house and strangling her roommate. They chased him away, but she got a good look at his face as he ran off. Talking to her the other day, she said she recognized him immediately when she saw this guys face. The police never took any evidence because they had to focus on the murder investigation the next day.

There's an good podcast about it all if you have the time. Classic City Crime

With that many people all thrown in together and the amount of drugs and alcohol involved with college life I’m honestly surprised this type of stuff doesn’t happen more often.

For some reason I always thought they busted the boyfriend for that one. I didn't realize it was still unsolved.

Two different people's DNA showed up in her. The boyfriend was one of them and was the prime suspect for years until the real killer's DNA showed up as a match. The defense is playing the race card big time saying the Tara was sleeping with the suspect and the boyfriend killed her when he found out she was sleeping with a black man. It's Jackie Chiles level stuff.
