or can we start having a serious conversation about the ceiling of Gunner as a qb?
Clearly, the dude has at least as much heart as anyone on that UGA roster. He epitomizes selflessness, sacrifice, and dedication all for a school he’s loved all his life. His teammates love him, which counts for a lot.
Problem is, unless he loses a ton of bad habits next season, I don’t think he’s a qb capable of leading a team to a chip in this parity-era of CFB.
He stares down his receivers. He’s not processing all his reads, much less looking at them all. He doesn’t throw to the middle of the field enough. He has a slow delivery. Defenses do not respect him as a threat to throw an effective deep ball. His indecisiveness, or lack of trust in his arm, comes and goes, leading to inconsistent performances. He uses his legs not to outrun defenders but rather to sacrifice his body via physicality, not exactly taking the hits you want to see your qb take.
Whole lotta talk last night about how we need to sign WRs and no one could get open last night. I refuse to believe a different qb couldn’t have had success last night. This idea that we have no skill players is ridiculous. Don’t tell me we didnt have anyone open when you’ve got Branch, Young, Thomas, Delp, and Luckie on the field.
Love the guy but if we’re looking to spend real money and are serious about winning chips, I’m not convinced he’s the guy. Maybe he makes a fool of me next season? I hope he does.

He doesn't stare down the receivers, he's.... processing his reads which you say he's not doing, and regarding looking at the reads, it's a progression. You look at read 1, read 2, it's open hit it. So you don't process read 3 or 4 or 5. Kind of how something is always "in the last place I looked". Because once you find it, you don't keep looking for it.
I can't believe I had to type this out.

Then why do they all run two high safeties against us?

Resulting in many 3rd and 4th down conversions, and TD's. You are calling this out as a flaw?
I'm not going to further dissect this utter nonsense. Your post is absurd.

You’re about 25% as smart as you think you are.
He doesn’t stare down his receivers, he’s just going through his progression? Have you ever played football, much less qb? He had 6 fricking passes batted down last night.

Going back over the last 15 years or so, there have been a laundry list of quarterbacks who came through who were supposed to have led Georgia to championships. All failed, some quite miserably, and a few fricked off to fail elsewhere without ever even playing for us.
The guy who won two titles "shouldn't have ever even seen the field" to hear a lot of people tell it at the time.
This was Stockton's first year as a starter. He's got room to grow, and given his work ethic, he probably will make some serious strides.

We need someone who is an elite passer. Love the dudes heart but not what is currently needed.

The one thing Stet had that Gunner lacks is fearlessness. I know that sounds silly considering the hits Gunner takes, but Stet was a cocky motherfricker who wasn’t scared of throwing a pick. He believed in his arm and wasn’t scared to use it.

I think he knows the game is moving too fast for him to process. He either holds on too long or bails out. That one flip on a roll out to Noah Thomas(?) was impressive but one of the few times I remember him having success outside the pocket.
They were both getting pressured. The difference between him and Chambliss is Chambliss could stand in the pocket with a defender bearing down on him and still deliver a strike to his receiver. Whether exploiting holes in our zone on short throw or catching nearly every deep ball regardless of the coverage.
The last offensive play summed it all up. He couldn't make up his mind quick enough, panicked, and threw into tight coverage. Watch his body language. He knew he fricked up.

You want him throwing no-look passes like he's on an episode of Dude Perfect?

Fair enough, but he also had a year as a starter in JUCO to help develop that.

If our defense got a stop on Ole Miss last drive, this topic doesn't exist. That's what makes this a dumb topic. Not off-limits, but dumb.

Fortunately, you’re not in my text threads with friends and family lol
It’s a sensitive subject, thus the title of this thread. It’s tough to say negative things about a dude who is as good of a person and warrior as Gunner is.

No, Gunnar needs to improve just like Stet did. What he is now/currently is not enough.
Kirby needs to really open up the QB competition this spring. Give Puglisi and Montgomery time with the first team.

I think Gunner got his bell rung and was all there for a couple qtrs... Not sure Pug was ready but there for a second I was afraid the doctors were going to ring down on Stockton.

He wasn’t all there after getting decleated. I think it was the third quarter he lined up under the left guard and Frazier has to move him over.

Holy shite, did that actually happen?

The good news is that Gunner won't lose his focus and his work ethic in the off-season and become distracted by money and Instagram vagina.
Gunner just needs to do a better job of changing his arm angles. He actually did it twice last night, including the completion that he almost died on to Cash Jones. That was encouraging. The days of a quarterback holding the ball ball beside their ear hole and stepping into every throw are over with and those days don't work anymore.
Gunner will always be stiff though, and that will be always be a liability. Gunner definitely wouldn't have been a middle infielder in baseball. I think it's also part of the reason why he has a hard time scanning the field and seeing open receivers. Maybe hire Gunner a yoga instructor and start doing 6 a.m. yoga every morning.

We're turning over our wide receiver corps. Wouldn't Gunner need all the reps he can get with next season's guys?

If tweet fails to load, click here. This is the play where Gunner got slammed. Look at how our left tackle was just run past. I bet if we broke the game down play by play we’d see the same thing over and over on both sides.
How is a QB supposed to hit downfield plays in situations like this?
