12 is too many teams. Increasing the number of playoff spots does not mean you get 12 teams that are national championship quality. It just means you started taking in flawed teams who don't really have a national championship quality team playing in order to increase revenue for ESPN.
4 teams was a nice compromise for the occasional year when a 3rd team had a high quality team.
This year should have been Indiana vs Georgia in a BCS style game.
