I interpret the question as what was the biggest embarrassment for us as a conference.

Easily... when the pundits make the case about leaving the SEC out of the BCS Championship game next year, are they going to be talking about TN / Wyoming? No. They will be talking about how Utah took Alabama to the woodshed. SEC strength isn't determined by who represents the bottom of the conference, it is the leaders in a prospective sport that determines our strength.

Alabama was one of the best teams in the SEC last year and they got dominated on the national stage by a school from a non-BCS conference. Forever changing the argument of non-BCS schools in the BCS game and potentially the BCS Championship game.

What does the UT / Wyoming game mean in comparison to that? Near nothing. Was it embarrassing for UT? No doubt. Was it embarrassing for us as a conference? Not really that much.

Agreed 100%. If you're talking about what is worse for the conf. Alabama was the top of the SEC, and lost to UTAH. Same as Georgia losing to WVA, Gave WVA credit for years in the eyes of the pollsters. Just like Au getting whipped by USC kept them from getting to the MNC game the following year.
I'd argue the Tenn's loss to UCLA was worse for the SEC than Wyoming. At the time of the loss to UCLA, Tenn was judged as one of the better SEC teams, but by the Wyoming loss, they stank and everyone knew it (except Vandy)

In basketball, having LSU do so well in the conf is horrible for the SEC (lost its 3 best non conf games, including losing at home to Xavier-who is barely in the top 25).
That being said, I'd still rather LSU had BAMA's year in football, and I bet BAMA wishes they had our year in basketball
