I see people all the time using homophones incorrectly. For example:

"Sense" instead of "since"
"Sight" instead of "site"
"There" instead of "their"
"Your" instead of "you're"

Because of the dumbing down of the public education system in this country. It’s by design. Stupid people are easier to manipulate and control.

Sometimes it's just a typo. I catch myself making the mistake sometimes and I do know the difference.

What really sucks is when you do it while calling someone stupid.

And some people are just stupid.

Your just taking for granite, that for all intensive purposes, those people have been taught the difference in those homophones.

One of things I enjoy doing is making fun of folks on our local Facebook community pages. Not too long ago a woman used "graphite" for "graffiti'.

That was a fun evening.

As the Chief of the Grammar Police, I believe it is due to Donald Trump making everyone racist and misogynistic and also funding the police. He is the culprit for the current spelling crime spree.

100% this.

In the future, there be a very small, educated ruling class, a slightly larger merchant class (go betweens) and a huge peasant class. So medieval Europe.

There seems to be confusion on sale/sell.

“I need to sale it on ebay”

“Nice car. Is it for sell”
