I dont consider James Madison and Tulane actual playoff teams. So considering that the SEC’s 5 teams make up half of the entire 10 team playoff this year, why are we going to handicap ourselves and make it even harder to reach the playoff going forward ??

The system as it is clearly benefits our league.

It just feels like leadership across the board in this sport is either retarded or motivated by something other than the actual health of the sport. Maybe both

More teams covering the country with more games to get more views which makes more money. Money is ALL that matters to the folks at the top of the football world.

It actually benefits us and makes things more equitable. Instead of having 3 SEC home games in even number years like we've had, we'll have 4 SEC home games every season.

But you're probably right about the playoffs, until it goes to 16 teams, and then it won't matter as much.

Kirby went on a major rant about it in one of the postgame interviews with SEC Network

It sounded like he thought there was still time to abort the idea and not go through with it

Im with Kirby. We’re making a huge mistake here. Were guaranteeing more losses and of the 5 teams, Georgia was probably the only team that could have stayed in the playoff with another loss this year

I saw that in his post game presser.

Yesterday on the pregame radio show a representative from the Chik-Fil-A bowl said that their game brings in 50-60 million dollars in revenue to Atlanta and that he figured the SEC Championship does about the same figures. If bowl games were generating close to those numbers, the powers to be aren’t letting that money get away. I believe there will end up being a big playoff expansion.

9 games will hurt the SEC. It will drop the overall national rankings of SEC teams. It is strictly for TV revenue I assume. I think it technically affects home game slots too in some cases.

I hope it illuminates having a bunch of teams with identical records and eliminates the arguments about the fourth and fifth place teams making the playoffs.
