Manny Diaz having a shot to make the CFP at Duke after getting fired by Miami who still has not made the playoffs got me thinking: which P4 head coaches who changed jobs this cycle (either head coach fired by P4 or sitting head coach hired by P4, so no coordinators) will make the playoffs before their old school? not counting this year obviously
Sumrall vs Tulane. I say Sumrall
Morris vs UNT. I say UNT
Napier vs UF. I say Napier
Lane vs Ole Miss. I say Lane
Chesney vs JMU. I say JMU
Silverfield vs Memphis. I say Memphis
Franklin vs Penn State. I say Franklin
Golesh vs USF. I say USF
Shoutout to Notre Dame (Brian Kelly), Oregon (Mario Cristobal), Sonny Dykes (SMU), and Curt Cignetti (JMU) who already won. Deboer (Washington) will probably join this list on Sunday but not official yet. Bonus opportunity for Dan Mullen who is technically still alive to make the playoffs before UF.

Not officially yet. Could be a tie

True, but it’s unlikely.

Even if the Blue Devils avenge their earlier loss to Virginia and win the ACC championship game, they likely won’t be hearing their name called Sunday during the College Football Playoff selection show. Winning a conference championship game doesn’t automatically punch a team’s ticket to the playoffs, even in one of the Power 4 conferences. The five automatic bids go to the five highest-ranked conference champions. If Duke wins the ACC title game and No. 25 James Madison (11–1) tops Troy on Friday night in the Sun Belt championship, the Dukes—not Duke—will likely get in as one of the five highest-ranked conference champions behind the winners of the Big Ten, SEC, Big 12 and American conferences.

If Duke gets into the CFP, I don’t want to hear any talking head griping about there not being enough spots in the CFP. The problem lies entirely on the selection of the current amount.

Duke has a 0% chance of making the CFB Playoff. There are multiple G5 teams ranked ahead of them & playing for a conference title.

Not the point of this thread, but Duke is +150 ML and +2000 to make the playoffs. So basically 12% chance to make it assuming they win. As opposed to Miami at ~20%

In the first year, for sure, but in the 3 years since not so much.
