You gotta be weird not to love a face like Bevo’s. Hate it for Reveille X and aggy that their yell leaders will be the only aggy mascots allowed at Friday’s Austin DKR game vs. “horn.” But disrespect the steer, reap the consequences!!
That said, happy Thanksgiving y’all!!
Texas vs. aggy mascot cold war rages on…

Well, bully for you.
Bullying small animals and denying children’s moments with a beautiful dog sounds like the script you are performing.
Maybe E2 needs to get Rev certified as an emotional support dog just iso we can deal with the stress of being in DKR and possibly having water bottles thrown at us.
We need to get our people working on that.

I actually like Reveille. And y’all sing about Bevo in half of your aggy songs, so I would have expected Bevo to have been welcomed at Kyle Field last year, instead of being dishonored…
If y’all built a special Pen of Honor for Bevo at Kyle Field for the 2026 game as a goodwill gesture, I’m sure our upper administrations could work this standoff out…

It’s almost like Kyle Field was renovated since the last time t.u. played there. The track/area surrounding the field was removed, leaving no room for a 2,000 pound cow and its pen.
But we get it. Sips don’t like dogs. Or are intimidated by them. Or something.
So weak, yet not surprising.

frick that one eyed bitch.
Texas maybe should revive Pig Bellmont, the original mascot as an addition for aggy game. Take that aggy sloot behind the bleachers and she'd get a bone of her own, American Pit style.
The original mascot of the University of Texas was a tan and white American Pit Bull Terrier named Pig Bellmont, born in Houston on February 10, 1914.
He was brought to Austin by L. Theo Bellmont, the university’s first athletic director and a co-founder of the Southwest Athletic Conference.
Pig quickly became a beloved fixture on campus, roaming freely and attending sporting events, classrooms, and even military cadet training sessions during World War I.
He was named in honor of Gus “Pig” Dittmar, a Texas football player known for his bowlegged running style and nickname derived from moving “like a greased pig” on the field.
The dog’s loyalty to the university was legendary, with reports noting he would snarl at the mention of Texas A&M and bark with joy when Texas was mentioned.
Pig served as the unofficial mascot for the varsity football team from 1914 to 1923, becoming a symbol of school spirit before the introduction of the longhorn steer Bevo.
His death on January 5, 1923, after being struck by a Model T, prompted a large funeral procession with over 1,000 mourners, a eulogy by the dean of engineering, and a memorial marker with the inscription “Pig’s Dead, Dog Gone”.
Today, a marker near the Graduate School of Business commemorates his legacy.

Another unsurprising move.

That’s no excuse. When y’all did that Kyle Field remodel, y’all absolutely knew that Texas would “follow a&m into the SEC” eventually. I hear that from aggy all the time. And this was true, Texas responsibly did enter the SEC, so ‘lil bro aggy did not have to be without a mentor any more…
A Place for Bevo should absolutely have been included in Kyle Field’s remodeling plans!

I guess so. Some how a dog just doesn't seem to measure up to the Texas Constitution of 1876 that a "university of the first class" be established as soon as possible.
One eyed Lassie may be acceptable for lessor colleges, not so much to represent the original and only "University of Texas".

That's the stupidest thing I'll read on the rant today. Congrats.
Here's a thought, a 1 ton animal is inappropriate for a live mascot, even if its nuts are cut off.

Pretty sure nothing compares to branding him 13-0 and Texas having to name him Bevo to cover it up! Texas apparently still has not recovered from it.
Posted on 11/27/25 at 6:37 am to Old School Tex
Why? When A&M went to the SEC, Texas was too scared or petty to continue the game.
So you think A&M should have made a place for him? Interesting theory.
Appears that pettiness is still there.

Don't know if the SEC has come to this conclusion yet after 13 years of aggy. The aggy will repeat something a couple of times and it becomes true.
The claim that Bevo's name originated from Texas A&M students branding the score "13-0" on the steer in February 1917, which was then altered by Texas students to spell "BEVO," is a widely circulated myth that has been debunked by historical evidence.
The name "Bevo" was first used in print in the December 1916 issue of the University of Texas alumni magazine, The Alcalde, where editor Ben Dyer referred to the steer as "Bevo" during a halftime presentation at a football game.
This predates the alleged branding incident by nearly a year, proving the name was established before the prank occurred.
Furthermore, archival research by Jim Nicar and others found no evidence that the brand was ever altered to spell "BEVO".
The hide from the original Bevo, which still bore the "13-0" brand, was presented to Texas A&M after the steer was barbecued in 1920, confirming that the brand remained unchanged.
The name "Bevo" is more plausibly derived from the slang term "beeve," meaning a cow or steer destined for beef, combined with the common nickname suffix "-o" popular in early 20th-century American culture, possibly influenced by comic strips like those by Gus Mager.
Another theory suggests a connection to the non-alcoholic malt beverage "Bevo" launched by Anheuser-Busch in 1916, though its limited distribution in Austin makes this link unlikely.
Therefore, the branding story is not true in terms of the name's origin, although the branding incident itself did occur.
The name "Bevo" was already in use before the branding, and the alteration of the brand to spell "BEVO" did not create the name.

I know that it hurts all y’all’s feelings, but Texas is now an equal SEC member. And Bevo is beloved far and wide, being one of the most recognized and iconic mascots in sports. So y’all need to pour a cup of coffee, reflect a bit, and realize that Bevo is here to stay…
And if you are business oriented like Sankey, just think of how many eyeballs Bevo is now pulling in, on behalf of the SEC!
But don’t take my word for it. Here’s an appropriately respectful article in Southern Living magazine for your education, about why Bevo is so broadly popular:

I get that there will be petty bickering between both sides and if Bevo can't come to Kyle then damn it Reveille ain't coming to DKR.
My understanding is that space on Kyle Field is limited due to the remodel over the last decade and space for a Bovine or any large domesticated mammal isn't feasible on the field surface. Keep in mind texas wasn't in our conference or apparently anywhere close to being on our schedule at the time of remodel, so no plans were made to convience a team that wasn't going to exist on our schedule for the foreseeable future. Take it for what you will and call it complete B/S if you'd like but reality is A&M had no problem hosting Bevo all the decades before last year when there was appropriate space for him.
I'm sure texas has a legitimate reason not to host a collie on it's field now too. And it's no where near little brother energy to respond as such. :)

I don't care what southern living says. Let's cut to brass tacks. Schools don't want bevo crapping in their football stadiums. That sort of $#!+ might fly in Austin, but that's about it.

The Allstate commercial also showed how unsafe it is even at their own stadium!
