Looking for a place for Dinner Friday night in Norman. Ubering from Soonervillage.
Basically looking for a traditional Norman don't miss type place....
Not wanting a loud bar or a marathon upscale place. Looking for a place we can carry on a conversation and try some good local food.
Any recs for a first timer?

It kinda depends on how much you want to spend. The Ranch steakhouse is expensive but it will be one of the best steaks you've ever had. Benvenuti's is probably my favorite, an Italian restaurant but it's not all pasta. Everything on the menu is fantastic.. If you want pasta at a long-time Norman establishment, Othello's is a can't miss. People will suggest The Mont because it is close to campus and a sentimental favorite of Normanites, but their food is kinda meh. Sorry guys, it is.
Great drinks though and a cool patio vibe in warmer weather.
Mosnowman, let us know if you don't find what you're looking for here, or in that thread OUGuy linked, or you're looking for something specific, etc. Norman has lots of good restaurants and a wide variety.. It seems like Norman has more Asian restaurants (Thai, Japanese, Korean) per capita than anywhere else in the southwest. Great Tex-Mex as well.
Let us know what sounds good. Hope you enjoy your stay

Mid to late 80s, there was a place on the extreme north edge of Norman that had a neon “Great Steaks” sign that looked like something from the WW2 or 1950s era. We always just called it the “Great Steaks Place”. Was that the Indian hills steakhouse? Are they still open? My only visit there was graduation night and it was pretty good.

Man that sounds familiar. If it's the place I am thinking of, it is called Mooney's Pub & Grill now.
I remember mid-80's there was a burger place in an old Taco Bell building just east of I-35 on Lindsey Street. They had 25-cent burgers.. they were small, no frills, but they were damn good and you could get a sack of them for a couple dollars LOL. For the life of me I can't remember the name of that place

Let us know how your trip went, not counting the loss I’m curious what you thought. Wish we could get a home night game that atmosphere is electric. Dod you see any sights and eat any good food?
Safe travels back

Had a good time despite the outcome.
Soonervillage was a friendly lot and talked with numerous Sooner fans in that lot. I have a large motor coach and had plenty of room.
Ended up at Tarahumaras Mexican Restaurant Friday night and thought it was very good. Uber driver was quite entertaining.
Tailgated at Champions Tailgate and talked with a number of Sooner Fans there as well. My overall impression is individual fans are a welcoming bunch.
11:00 start time sucks and as a result we made this one a quick trip so didn't hang around on this one. Usually our road trips are longer so unfortunately didn't get much of a chance to explore. Had to make it back to KC for the Chiefs game which was a much better outcome in our minds.
Thanks again for the recs.

If you asked about Mexican food, Tarahumara's would've been my first rec. It's legit.
Glad you had a decent trip and made it home safe.
