Yes. It was called “Reconstruction”. Also, the “republic” crowd in this thread are a bunch of simps. The USA is a CONSTITUTIONAL republic. States don’t exist in a vacuum. Every state affects interstate commerce in some way, therefore, it would appear that the commerce clause authorizes such a takeover. No doubt all you “sovereign citizen” geniuses will dispute this.

Walked into the registrar’s office and registered when I turned 18. Then crossed the street to the post office and registered for selective service. Not a hindrance at all, except for the terminally lazy and stupid, who shouldn’t be voting anyway.
