Let each conference, through various tiebreakers, rank their own teams 1- whatever. The committee, or a predetermined process, would take x amount of teams from each conference by order of finish and seed them. Notre Dame can join a conference or watch from home. They can’t survive alone. All politics is local and this current process is definitely too political.

And the way to do this is to have basketball challenge style interconference play between each of the conferences and then based on the final standings allocated playoff spots per conference, then the conferences are ranked based on traditional standings. Once teams are selected can be seeded however they like.

yes. better for the fans too. But everyone will be in a hurry and scramble to schedule teams like Wisconsin, Minnesota, Rutgers, etc.

Just like in basketball, the conference heads would have to get together and sort it out, being as fair as possible. Point to consider though, if you do it this way, then your W/L would be meaningless as your playoff hope would hinge solely on your conference games, but they would matter in determining how many spots your conference gets.

The only way to be fair is have everybody set up identically in conf. size, schedule format, tie-breakers, etc.

That way nobody can complain about bias.

its exactly like our government already

special interests gumming up the works, some conferences (states) get more representation than others

some shadowy group makes all the decisions behind the scenes, and puts some spokesperson at the podium to announce things for the masses to focus their ire on

What do you do if the number 8 team in conference A could beat the living dog shite out of team number 1 in conference B?
