To be fair Kentucky has proven to be a very difficult place for a coach to win since Petrino went to the Celtics.

Two things that lower the chance of hiring a successful head coach:
Hiring a coach in waiting.
Bringing back a member of the family.
Mitch Barnhart has done both. He also hired a drunk without properly checking out his background and let the guy coach for two years under an MOU without a morals clause. And extended Stoops.
Cal was a good hire and Brooks was the right guy at the time but otherwise Mitch has sucked.

They've won two titles since then. I don't know how many have not won one since then, but it's a lot.
