Vanderbilt is currently 14th in the CFP ranking and needs to get to 10th to allow for a lower ranked ACC champ and a group of five champ to make it in the last 2 spots. Vandy needs at least four teams in front of them to lose, preferably teams on the bubble. Here are the teams ahead of Vandy and their remaining opponents:

8. Oregon - USC, Washington
9. Notre Dame - Pitt, Syracuse, Stanford
10. Texas - Georgia, Arkansas, TAMU
11. Oklahoma - Alabama, Missouri, LSU
12. BYU - TCU, Cincinnati, UCF
13. Utah - Baylor, K State, Kansas

I think Texas, Oklahoma, BYU, and Utah will most likely drop at least one game each. I’m not sure if Vandy will jump Oregon or Notre Dame, even if those teams drop a game.

If Vandy wins out, I predict they end up 10th and make the CFP. Should be an exciting finish!

Texas would still have a 31% chance of making the playoffs even with a third loss. Think about that. Do you think the committee would ever have Vandy that high with a third loss? They need to beat the Vols.

Vandy jumping ND in the polls for a possible chance to play for a natty. What in the wild world of sports is going on here. That’s just a crazy arse thought lol.

ESPN CFP predictor
This gives Vandy a 73% chance of making it if they win out, which sounds about right to me.

Oregon will get in over Vandy if they both go 10-2, I don’t see Oregon dropping both of those (maybe 1)

I don’t think Texas or OU get in with 3 losses. That should clear 2 spots

BYU will lose again and drop, I don’t think Utah does. Utah is significantly better than their 3 remaining opponents

Notre Dame either loses to Pitt this weekend or goes 10-2. 9-3 they are out

I see ~3 spots opening up realistically. Even if ND loses to Pitt, Vandy would get jumped by Miami because Miami still has to play Pitt, which would give them a 3rd ranked win

11/22 Kentucky @ Vanderbilt
11/29 Vanderbilt @ Tennessee

That Tennessee game seems tough, but doable

Sorry Kentucky, no faith. Although not impossible

Remember the OU and Tejas fans last summer wanting Vandy kicked out of the SEC?

Vandy winning in Knoxville in the last week of the regular season would be a big win. Tennessee is 25-4 in their last 29 home games and 3 of the losses were against Georgia.

Oklahoma will be toast if they lose this weekend to Alabama. The ACC is predicted to only get one team in. Notre Dame is the playoffs even if people don't like it. They'll be big favorites in their last 3 games.

Assuming it's chalk from here on out, these teams would be set:

Ohio State
SECCG winner
SECCG loser
Indiana
Georgia
Texas Tech or Ole Miss
Ole Miss or Texas Tech
Oregon
Notre Dame
ACCCG winner
Group of 4 team

...So if Vanderbilt wins out, they should be good. Only plot twist I can see is if BYU beats Texas Tech in the Big 12 championship game.
