He needs to get ahead of the posse and take the VT job to prolong his head coaching career. It’s just a matter of time. VT and the ACC will be a lot more forgiving.

Franklin can do better than VT (Arkansas and Oklahoma State).

Beamer is still pissed at VT for how they treated his dad.

quote:

Beamer's father announced his retirement at Virginia Tech in 2015, prior to the end of the season, which was not the original plan, a source confirmed to CBS Sports. There was friction there between the Hokies' administration and the Beamer family after the long-time coach and winningest in program history was told before the season that 2015 campaign would be his last.

The decision was "handed down to Frank," as one source put it. Following Frank Beamer's retirement, the Hokies went with then-Memphis hot shot Justin Fuente, who last six seasons with mixed results in Blacksburg.

Shane Beamer, despite walking on at Virginia Tech as a player and later coaching under his father from 2011 through the 2015 season, was not viewed as a serious candidate during that search despite having a great relationship with the players.

And Beamer keeps receipts.

"Shane's not coming to Virginia Tech as long as Whit Babcock is the athletic director," one source with knowledge of the search told CBS Sports on Monday.

lol this just speaks to Shane’s delusions and nepotism. No one was considering him in late 2020 for their HC job outside of us because he had zero HC/OC/DC experience. So 5 years earlier with even less experience he expected to be handing his daddy’s job with no notable resume to speak of? He can’t be fired soon enough.

With a new AD I am cautiously optimistic about the OC hire...and possibly a DC hire. I think we at the worst won't hear the words "pro style"

You read it wrong.

Beamer wasn't "keeping receipts" for not being considered for the VT or other HC jobs, he was keeping them because of how VT treated his dad at the end of Frank's career.

This is the key sentance you missed.

The Beamer family thought Frank should be able to go out on his own terms.

And why in the world is this thread anchored?

Well they thought wrong. Frank did a lot for that program but it was time for him to move on and for the program to move on as well.

Anyways, it’s been a decade and Shane hasn’t done anything to escape his father’s name here. The road is easier there and they will give him a much more leeway there given their results the last decade. Outside of Virginia Tech, no one is getting excited or even intrigued by the Beamer name these days. If he’s smart he goes there now, adds another 4-5 years to his HC career before going back to being a Special Teams Coordinator somewhere or getting out of coaching altogether.
