This is why I’m still far from wanting to fire BV. Offense easier to fix than defense. And D looks better than it has since early 2000s.
BTW, I think it is now mathematically impossible for OU to have a losing season, but screw that. We’re now 3-2 in SEC, and the last three games are all quite winnable. Ugh! We’d look like world beaters if we could just get turnovers and penalties under control.

I can very regrettably remember those boat-race shootout games of OUr air-raid vs. whoever's air-raid in the context of our kettlebell-trained speed-D that did not tackle in practice allowing 30+ ppg.
Even lighting up the scoreboard, always worried the other team would simply score more.
AND !!!
all those games where the opponent had to play their 2nd or 3rd string QB, that had a career night to embarrass us.
Much better to have a solid D. Now that we are past the OC-revolving-door to building some continuity in the OC, O-line, skill positions, the offense will improve.

Amen. Riley and even the late Stoops era I remember sweating it out wondering if we could hang on to beat a “Thursday team” (if you know, you know).

Funny thing. I’ve never heard that phrase used before. I’m claiming it as an original thought, however, every time I’ve used it around football fans, they know exactly which type of programs I’m talking about: Baylor, TTU, most of the ACC, etc.
Also, comparing schedules:
Texas’ SEC Thursday teams: MSU, Kentucky, Vandy, with Arkansas and Florida presently being of Thursday quality.
OU: South Carolina. In normal times, I’d include Missouri but they’re currently playing above their history.
Go figure.

Speaking of defense - any reliable word on RMT recovery time estimates?
Has he chatted with the counter man at Chipotle?

They won’t say anything until at least next Wed when first injury report comes out
Last I read on 5th:

quote:
Brent Venables on R Mason Thomas and his injury: “We’ll just continue to evaluate him. It’s still just a couple of days into it. I’ll let y’all know when I know a little more.”
