Kind of a shite stat. If you are not a blue blood then you can end a year ranked high and begin the next year unranked on name only

There aren’t really any teams on this list that should have been ranked a bunch of times when they weren’t. Preseason or otherwise.

We need another Spurrier, clone him now, but make the clone younger.

Sounds easy enough but I don’t know. In this era of college football with the SEC playing ranked against ranked every week I don’t know if this record will ever fall.
I will say this though. Bama will be good enough to legitimately have a shot at it. The SEC is so hard now that Texas and OU have come into the league. That’s still a lot of winning for the next 2 or 3 years.

No doubt. The polls are based on pre-season expectations and blue blood status instead of on field results.
Its especially true in the early part of the season. Teams like Alabama shouldn't have been ranked after Week 1

The voters did not see it that way, And they were proven correct. I fear you were mistaken.

The poll isn't a prediction of what's to come. It's ranking the best teams based on strength of schedule, head to head results, and on-field performance.

correct. and many ppl correctly deduced that alabama was still one of the best 25 teams based on those factors
much as they deduced minnesota going 8-5 against the worst division in the big ten those years didn’t warrant a spot.
it’s true lsu has profoundly underperformed all expectations in recent years though. your graphic here does a good job showing that at least. we know the polls get it wrong some of the time.
not usually with bama obviously.

Sooner or later Ohio St will own this record. They have a much larger talent advantage over the rest of the Big 10 year in and year out. Plus they only have to play 1 or 2 games a year against competitive opponents during the regular season. All that adds up to being ranked for a very long time. They would need to have an epic collapse for them to find themselves not ranked in any season.

That’s a stretch. Michigan has deeper pockets than anyone else in the big ten. They will probably take over tOSU as the premier team in the conference. But they need to find a real head coach because I don’t think the guy they have now is it. Penn state also has deeper pockets. And Oregon? They print their own money. Washington has a lot of Software tech money out there. It’s no longer a one horse race in the Big. OSU is going through their golden age now but it won’t last forever

What about Alabama's on field performance screamed to you Top 25 after the loss against FSU?

their stacked roster and elite coaching staff mostly, no reason to ignore that in the rankings. it was just one game. it wasn’t like they were highly ranked after it.
and as we have seen since, it was justified. you would have been mistaken to say they weren’t one of the 25 best teams at the time.
thankfully, the pollsters knew better than you.

If what you are saying is true then the teams you just named should be more talented than Ohio State now. It’s not just about money. A lot of other stuff goes into it.
You are missing the point anyway. In order for Ohio St to fall out of the top 25 and bust the streak they have going right now somewhere along the way some little sisters Big 10 team or 2 will have to knock them off. I can’t see Purdue or some other Big 10 bottom dweller getting them with as much talent as they have every year. It would take a total collapse by Ohio State to lose 4 or 5 games in a season which would knock them out of the top 25.

Look at the title of this thread though. Longest streak for SEC teams. Bama will probably keep that record
