Wow...more fodder for the 'preseason polls are useless' crowd I suppose. Vandy and GT in the top 10 while Texas, Penn st, and Clemson all had various media folks claiming each of them to be #1 at the beginning of the season, now all have turned into bog-sludge.

It's no secret that the early polls are useless. Even moreso recently because of heavy roster turnover from one season to the next. But, even the later polls have major flaws because of the wide disparities in schedule difficulty (which is also hard to assess). IMO, neither GT nor Vanderbilt are top 10 quality teams, but it's hard to know that definitively without seeing more games between highly ranked teams. Both have very experienced (6 or 7 years worth) qb's, which can carry a team against lower levels of coaching and competition, or even upset a superior opponent. But, I don't think either of them would be heavily favored (if at all) against "bog-sludge" Texas.

I don't have any suggestions on how to improve the rankings, but they have more value for fan engagement than for accurately projecting the top 25 teams.

ohio state might be the most invisible #1 team ever. It’s like they vanished after beating Texas, and nobody ever speaks about them except when the polls come out each week.

Also, Notre Dame at #12 is ridiculous. They started season 0-2 but would still be in the playoff if this were the last poll? The next lowest ranked 2-loss team is back at #17

Yep, their schedule is boring and will continue to be boring. Pollsters probably ranked Texas pre-season #2 just to lend some credence to Ohio State's schedule. Maybe Michigan will cruise through the rest of their boring schedule and set up another "game of the century" season finale.

Ive been trying to look down the road at how the SEC championship participants will be decided. It’ll wad your brain up in knots trying to run down all of the tiebreaker scenarios with all of the 1-conference-loss teams remaining, and the rest of the conference games on schedule, but its pretty fascinating

A&m, bama, Dawgs, ole Miss, miZzz, Oklahoma, Vandy, and even Texas are still reasonably alive and in the hunt to reach ATL.

Barring a 2 loss disaster in their 4 remaining conference gamess, bama is almost certainly in. They can even lose one of those conference games and still get in ahead of us with the head2head braeker.

A&m would take the other spot if they win out, but they still have Lsu, miZzz, Scarolina, and texas on deck.

So tiebreaker-wise, Texas factors huge here as they are the only common opponent remaining for both Georgia and A&m.

If i’m correct, our most likely path to ATL is beating Texas and A&m losing to Texas. Or A&m beats texas but loses to one of the others and Georgia beats Texas by more points than a&m did or some shite

miZzz and Georgia is interesting too. As they both share alabama as the only sec team they have lost to. And by the same margin of 3 points

Long story short, the 6th tiebreaker is a literal random drawing of team names from a hat, so im pulling hard for that. Would be hilarious. Also, i think id rather skip ATL anyway and still get in the playoff, so Gigem, Go Aggies!
