This week has brought back memories of legendary TSIO games at Legion Field. What has become of the old stadium? Are there any full time tenants? What does the future look like for this historic venue?

UAB played there until Progressive Stadium was built.
Some local High Schools still play there.

My default setting is that people always exaggerate how bad an area looks. So growing up I always dismissed the fears of legion field
Then I moved to Birmingham and one day decided to do a quick drive through the area…………..it was worse than the stories

Legion Field continues to be a dump and uab built a nice new stadium in North Birmingham.
Think it's eventually going to get demolished unless they decide to spend a lot of money for some mixed used development. However based on the area it is in... That's a hard sell

That’s kinda what I figured. That is a lot of money just in maintenance for something that isn’t bringing in much revenue. Hate to see it.

Yes, the old days of driving to Legion Field and having the local dudes waving their handkerchiefs and swat rags at you to pull in a yard and park. Then walking into the stadium while wondering if your car would still be there when you got out was real!
I had a neighbor who owned a business 3 blocks from LF and I could park there in their secured lot. That was awesome.

My dad went to a TN game at Legion with a buddy back in the day. This guy wanted like 20 bucks to park on the street in front of his house. There was this whole back and forth, with my dad pleading with his friend to pay the guy. The guy was an idiotic attorney and was all like “I know my rights, I don’t have to pay to park on a public street.” The dude said “yes, but I’ll watch your car if you pay.”
Well they didn’t pay…the car was on blocks when they got back after the game!

Its still there but was downsized because of some structural issues I believe. Theres a new stadium downtown that UAB plays at now so it goes unused unless high school teams play there

For sure. I still remember finding a house to park at and my Granddad was a cheap SOB and wouldn't let us buy shite to eat at the game so I always remember packing an igloo full of sandwhiches and cold drinks to tailgate with at those homes with the owners. This was during the early 80's and I haven't been down there in decades to see what it looks like now.
