Are we screwed for the foreseeable future?

Everything I read, the stuff that is not automatically biased for OU that is, spells gloom and doom for this season, the fate of the current coaching staff and the effect all of this will have on recruiting going forward.
Is this all there is?
I have recently taken to rewatching two of the bright moments from last year, the wins over Auburn and Alabama.
Are the Sooners unable to have such success versus other teams on the schedule?
Since when did Missouri and South Carolina become juggernauts that other teams feared to play?
Will Oklahoma ever beat LSU?
What about the CFP?
I don't want to be stuck reliving the past. I want this team to be great now not later.

They are all basing it off of last year. Most think it was all SEC toughness related - and even though SEC is tougher - last year was an outlier.
We went 6-7 and had no business losing bowl game to Navy but did.
The 6 conference losses were mostly all offense related.
- We had a bad OC hire and fired him - but now you have his system installed the rest of year so lame duck
- We had a 5*+ QB who just completely choked under pressure. Granted, a competent OC should have called plays to get him in the groove but Arnold still made so many mental mistakes.
- We had a historical injury year for our WR room.
- We had a young and also injured OLine
- Even our TE room was bad, throwing that stupid trick play vs LSU and INT changed the game.
- RB room was also banged up and didn’t produce. With everything else broken there were no holes and with no WRs teams knew we had to run - so they cheated the box to stop run.
You cannot overstate how all those factors made last year so bad. Yet we still won 6 games and even beat Bama.
It would not have taken much to beat 3 teams that puts us at 9-4. And then another step up from there gets us to 11-2.
We are a great D team with a worst in history offense. Going 6-7 with that was a fete!
Now we have:
- Best portal experienced QB
- New OC who coached our QB
- Best portal RB
- Healthier WR room plus transfers
- Healthier OLine with experience and depth
- RB thats deep
- TE’s who will be much better
- Added position coaches and even health staff.
I’m telling you, this team is closer to the playoffs than not.
Playing tx as “road” team means in conference games:
4 True home games
1 Neutral site game
3 True road games
1 OOC big home game (Michigan)
Thats better than last year. Being away at RRS gets us an extra home game vs last year.
This team is going to surprise so many pundits who have no clue what happened last year. Just laugh it off when you read those things there will be more.
Keep in mind these teams (and their surrogate writers) use last year to negative recruit. Once we beat Michigan then things will start to change but until we beat conference teams it will remain.
I have us 9-3 this year but 8-4 or 10-2 are possibles too. 9-3 with our schedule might get us in playoffs.
Can’t wait til we lace em up!! Stay positive! Its going to be a fun year

Another example

OU’s 4th string Right Tackle STARTED 9 games at Stanford last year. If for no other reason than that, you have to feel a whole lot better about the depth of the O-line as compared to last year’s mess

Someone good with numbers and making charts needs to merge the returning production with the blue chip ratio and rank them.

Very on point summary.
I'm looking forward to watching many pundits eat big steaming plates of crow. But there are some pundits who see how OUr portal work and staff improvements have positioned us.
The ponies Boomer & Sooner are gonna run a LOT of laps this fall.

With a decent OC in 2024 we beat Navy and Missouri, and take at least 2/5 maybe 3/5, from Tennessee, Texas, LSU, Ole Miss, and SoCar.

Honestly I had Oklahoma going 9-3 last season but with all those injuries, it hurt the offensive chemistry bad. But even then the team was still in quite a few games. They played with a lot of grit. Look at what they did to Bama. Them SEC roads games ain’t no joke. No matter what a team record is, you have to go into that game with the mind set that your opponent is ranked higher than. Bama came into that game over confident and paid a heavy price.

I recall we acquired from Kennesaw St. at least 2 portaled players:
Jacob Ulrich, P, 6'5" 206.
Austin Welch, K, 5'10", 175.
(did I miss any others?)
When we hired these guys I was dubious due to their "small school" experience.
But good to see their previous program is well managed and getting some credit.
Plus - their challenge is mostly mental, so good reps kicking the pigskin in the prairie winds will be the main thing.

Prior to Saturday, Arch Manning’s last game as a starter was a 35-7 playoff loss to Lafayette Christian Academy. Maybe he’s just not that good?
