Wow, this is something. He’s done an overall good job but was time to retire. So much is changed now and will require a strong AD. Hope they make the right hire, its a massive position.

Interesting. He had a good run. Any ideas on a replacement - hire from within? (kinda hope not)

No idea all speculation.

I do wonder if Nagy was hired knowing this?

I’ve seen lots of Zac Selmon talk but he’s too inexperienced imo.

Odds are they take a year to decide and ot could come from private industry. The landscape has changed and with NIL and money side of sport that will be a key element.

Someone who can fundraise but also can work the money side - which is whats going to give you good players. You still need a coach that players will trust. But money is the game now.

But not all sports are money.

Whoever it is will likely have to replace Patty and our gym coach in the coming years.

How about Sam Presti lol. That guy is good but I don't think he’d leave Thunder. His wife is an assistant with the women's gym team though?

Yep. Been hearing the Selmon kid mentioned since last football season. I still think he has to be “proven up” before OU should even consider him. And like you said, it’s “athletic director”, not “football director”. I have no names to offer. What are some schools that have made a splash recently in multiple sports that were previously in a sports wasteland? Maybe poach their AD? Arkansas? Ole Miss? USC, Jr. ? Tennessee?

Texas Tech has been doing great.

I think they go outside the norms. Its a new era. If they can manage the money then they just need to hire good coaches. Coaching related recruiting will still matter but a bit less than it used to. If the money is there and spent wisely that will draw in recruits.

I still think the Nagy hire was Joe getting ahead of his decision. He wants the football program to be stable and Jim provides that. He is a GM type person who will keep football stable thru all the changes at AD.

No matter what happens football wise this year he can work so many things to keep it stable. Lets say Brent has an awful season. Everyone will call for his head and no new AD would want to deal with that right off the bat. So if it goes south then Joe would likely be the one to pull that trigger. And Jim would keep things stable NIL and other wise.

Trammel has a story that's headline makes it look like he and the prez are at odds....its behind a pay wall, and I can't in good conscience give a dollar to the daily joke.

Don't be surprised if we hire a professional sports exec with experience managing money and caps.

You talking Joe? No way. I think he stayed many years and the landscape has changed so much he wants to leave it behind. But he’s doing it in a way that hells us, and has 3 years to make it work.

If there were issues he’d leave within a few months at most. Staying on for 2 years - after staying as AD for another year - thats not clashing. Its possible they want to go a different direction and did this amicably but I don’t think any issues exist (nothing big, all AD’s will have some issues they see differently on).

Thats my expectation. It’s why I think they hire a private industry person. I really hope they don’t do a DEI hire - just hire the best candidate that can make good decisions. A DEI hire would therefore make their own hiring decisions based on DEI and it never ends. So I do hope its best candidate and keep the other crap out of decision.

I do worry because the guy heading up the committee came from AT&T and they had woke policies there. Not sure how involved he was in implementing or not though. But hopefully thats not the case now. Time will tell.

Not putting words in trammels mouth, but that's just what the headline makes it look like...im sure its click bait for the most part.

Some speculation/rumors that they could be looking for a hybrid approach with a traditional A.D. and a separate reporting structure over the football program. Which IMO makes a ton of sense in this portal/NIL/revenue sharing world.

I think they already have that mostly in place with Nagy. He has a reporting staff of around 6 members. I think he will mostly run the football side.
