After all the crap he has had to endure, he is playing PGA Championship golf this weekend. A top 5 would be awesome. Go Bud!

Yup. I was coming here to post this in the golf thread. He’s solo 2nd and one off the lead after a 6-under 66 today. Crowded leaderboard tomorrow but he’s got a shot to win. Former Bama golfers Davis Riley, Justin Thomas and Trey Mullinax also made the cut.

Why has Justin Thomas faded so much lately? Any body know the reason(reasons)?
I thought he would be an all timer.

Golf is a funny game. He shot 78 on Thursday then came back Friday with 10-under 62 to tie the course record. He was meh today with 1-over 73, I think.

I think some of these younger players get super rich early, get married, have a family and they’re not as hungry anymore. The superstars are multimillionaires in their 20s. I think it affects their motivation, focus and work ethic.

Get to know @BudCauley:

He grew up playing golf just 6 miles from TPC Sawgrass.

Named 2009 SEC Freshman of the Year.

Was Walker Cup teammates with Rickie Fowler.

In 2011, the 21-year-old had five top-15s in 11 starts to earn TOUR status right out of college. Only six other players at the time had completed that feat.

Cauley's former roommate is 2021 PLAYERS champ, Justin Thomas. The two were teammates together at Alabama.

In 2018, Bud Cauley underwent surgery after a car crash left him with five broken ribs, a broken leg and a collapsed lung.

Cauley, making just his 23rd start in 4.5 years, will try to celebrate his 35th birthday on Sunday with his first career win in his hometown.

Cauley was involved in a car accident in 2018 that left him with 6 broken ribs, a collapsed lung and a broken leg. He's battled complications from those injuries in the years since. Not many dry eyes in that family tomorrow if Bud pulls off the win.

Bud Cauley is within 1 shot of the lead entering the final round of a PGA Tour event for the first time in almost 13 years (2012 Wyndham Championship).

Bud Cauley wants to dish on … life-altering experiences.

Not exactly the lightest subject, but stay with him. There’s a hierarchy, it seems. Car accidents that break six ribs and a leg and collapse a lung? That one’s up there. But another bests it.

“Well, I thought the car accident was life altering,” Cauley said, “and then we had a couple kids and that was really life altering.”

Go ahead and smile. Cauley did. He’s easy-going like that. He’s easy-swinging too. Both traits were behind a seven-birdie, one-eagle 66 on a breezy Saturday at TPC Sawgrass where scores ballooned during the Players Championship’s third round. Sunday, he’ll start in the final grouping. He’s in solo second, one stroke back of leader J.J. Spaun, and he’s also in line for a career payday. Shoot, should he win, the Players’ $4.5 million winner’s check would be around half of what he’s cashed in his 14-year career.

@nickpia with more on the surprise story of the Players.

In addition to locking in his PGA Tour card for 2025, Bud earned $843,750 with T6. Pretty good payday.
