Multiple potential reasons.
1 - Easier to secure a site in daylight.
2 - ESPN had another game scheduled at 8 PM
3 - Your hotel explanation makes sense.
4 - Apparently the teams preferred not playing past midnight and asked for an earlier kickoff.
