CFP...Perfect Size?

I know it's still going on, but what would be the "perfect size" for the CFP format?
I, personally, think 4 was too small amongst 5 conferences when you even allowed conferences to take multiple slots.
Some are saying 12 is too big for a variety of reasons (too many teams, certain teams omitted, teams selected over others for _____ reasoning, etc.).

I would be good with:
8 teams, no auto bids or byes
Or - 12 teams, can keep the auto bids, and seed the teams as they are actually ranked with no byes. Boise State and Arizona State have no fricking business getting a bye week in the playoffs. Boise State has 0 P4 wins. Arizona State lost by 2 scores to a team that isn't even bowl eligible in the Big 12.
I dont see them ever reducing the playoff field, they arent paying all this money for less TV inventory. The arse whippings from this weekend probably put a pin in them expanding it to 16 at least.

UGA played two instant classic CFP semifinal games when the playoffs were 4 teams (2017 versus Oklahoma and 2021 versus Ohio State) , but those two games were the outliers in ten seasons of the 4 team CFP (2014-2023). Meaning the semifinal games were usually snoozers.
Four teams is enough now that there are only 4 Power conferences left. Use the original BCS formula to supplement the committee. Don’t rank the teams for the playoffs until the second weekend in November, then provide a clear explanation of how they were ranked.
This would provide fairness and transparency. Which is rarely present when the goal is making as much profit as possible.

Alabama losing to Vandy and OU is not acceptable.

34-0.
ETA: Dick riding Vandy and Oklahoma is not acceptable. Unless you are Big 12. The discussion was about the CFP, something your shitass program would never sniff, no matter if it was expanded to 16 teams.

The whole damn thing is a good idea that's hampered by trying to avoid antitrust lawsuits.
These shite teams getting in based on their conference commissioner's opinions mattering to prove it's not a monopoly is the entire reason it sucks.
Just take the 12 best teams based on some shite committee or AI or whatever, but what's happening now is the first salvo of a future antitrust lawsuit and it stinks.

Hold on. The committee will not take it if repeated again next year. Drinkwitz was able to beat both Vandy and OU. Your HC must've gotten lazy. Plus he needs more time to get familiarized with the SEC teams and his own players. Nothing wrong with what I said. He needs to do a better job preparing for every team Alabama plays.

I have kept cichlids with more sense than you. The discussion is the CFP. If you would like to start a thread about how Missouri football had a banner year in 2024, it is still a free country.
In the meantime, go paint some more shite swastikas, sweet Melissa

I think 6 is the number

Even with the 4 team format, there were blowouts in the first round.

do it like the FA cup in English soccer. they will have 745 teams this year. the tournament starts week 0. basically every d2 team gets a bye, every d1 team gets two byes, then finally the power 4 teams enter the latest. no one gets left out. bama is always in.

This is about using common sense. You on the other hand just post pics that are like throwing a tantrum. I am happy that Drinkwitz is elevating the football team in general. Even Gary Pinkel couldn't do it. He did enough but Drinkwitz is going to be a much better HC than Gary Pinkel. This isn't about Mizzou. It is all about Alabama losing to 2 unranked teams. One in a blowout loss close to the end of the season. I never question that Mizzou was never good enough to make the playoffs because the team wasn't quite ready to compete for a championship yet. So far Drinkwitz is building the program to get blue chip players. Soon he will have Mizzou playing in the playoffs. DeBoer had some bad losses in his first year at Washington. Kirby Smart had something like that in his first year at UGA. Nick Saban did the same thing in his first year at Alabama. There is no shame for losing that many games in their first year at their new school. Some may never improve like we are witnessing BK at LSU. Maybe with the much improved roster that might change but I doubt it because BK isn't a championship HC at this level.

If we just picked the best 6 teams in the country regardless of conference and left out the “but they went 9-2 in the sunbelt” teams that would be enough . A 12 team playoff with 4 good teams and 8 bad ones is a worse product.

I really don't get why they didn't just go to 6 if they wanted to expand. You could test out the first round bye in this format. Going from 4 to 12 is just so crazy

Exactly. Even the NC game.
Since the inception of the 4 team playoff 7 of the 10 NC games have been decided by 15 or more points.

Studies have shown between 6 and 7 is ideal.
Beyond that.. and it’s just too much.
Less than that… leads to disappointment

This would have been perfect.
Instead they'll expand to 16 and we'll get two weeks of garbage "playoff" football instead of one.
