Jon Gruden reveals how close he came to taking the Tennessee coaching job:
“My wife cheered at Tennessee. I love Tennessee. I was a graduate coach there, and I did talk to the Athletic Director, and I don’t look up to anybody more than I look up to Peyton Manning and Kenny Chesney. Those are two of my favorite Tennessee guys. And I was very interested in doing it. At that time I was having so much fun on Monday Night Football with Mike Tirico I couldn’t take any other job... I almost did consider pulling the trigger there.”
You young guys missed out on the Grumors
Him and Bill Cowher were all the rage back in the day

Vols dodged a bullet. They're much better off with Hippoul.

So...the Vols are better off with Heupel than they would have been hiring Gruden 12 years ago? That means they are better having hired Butch Jones, and Jeremy Pruitt...them failing in spectacular fashion...then hiring Heupel than they would have been having Gruden as HC during that stretch?

What year was this? I remember he called the Outback Bowl on Jan 1, 2013 between USC and Michigan. He was pretty livid about the bullshite first down call they gave to Michigan. And when Clowney knocked that dude's head off and grabbed that ball on the next play I think Gruden was even more excited than the South Carolina players.
It would have been a shame if he took that job and never got to call that game.
