Backing up off that big mouth. He "misspoke". In Tennessee we call that lying.

He didn't apologize or state he was wrong. He just explained the truth of what he said more thoroughly.

He did misspeak, they didn’t pipe in artificial crowd noise. They used speakers and microphones to increase existing crowd noise. Much like a concert. How else do you think the dipshits in the upper deck of Neyland Stadium hear Morgan Wallen throw a chair off the stage?
