We needed one fing yard last night and ran from the shotgun.

This new defenses can be weak vs the run, are we afraid to not be in a modern spread to run the I formation?

Gurlery, Chubb, Michele feasted in these sets. Now we give the ball to backs standing flat footed I stead heading down hill.

Not saying go back to it all the time, just in run situations....

I think Beck checks out of some run calls and takes the easy short passes which are similar in effect. I’d like us to have a more dominant run game, but get what we are doing.

I get it, Texas's offense is extremely similar to ours. Funny how much we throw near the Los with screens and checks.

We could not seem to break texass zone they set in and we're able to run the ball.

Way too many times we have failed to get the short yardage needed for a first-down.
Yes, we ran that play from the shotgun and everyone in the stadium knew that we were trying to power run the ball into a pile of bodies and of course it didn't work because the defense packed it in and neutralized our blocks.

IMHO, we should be running our regular offense in those situations to spread the defense and give the QB options based on his read of the defense.
One option might be to fake the dive to Etienne if the numbers up front don't look good, have Etienne slough off a block and then receive a short pass for first down yardage. And I emphasize catch the ball for first down yardage instead of a screen pass.
I would have the slot receiver on the right side slant left over the middle to draw a defender which should clear a spot for Etienne.

this is one of my biggest pet peeves about modern offenses in general. It's infuriating seeing us line up in a goal to go situation inside the 2 yard line and we're in shotgun with the person that's going to run the ball 3-4 yards behind where the ball is snapped. If you need a yard, get under center for crying out loud.

It's funny to me that under Richt/bobo we were very much a pro style/I-formation offense and everyone thought we were stuck in the mud and slow to adjust to the new spread offense that everyone was doing. Now we're in the shotgun and 4 wide eveyr play and we're clamoring for hte I again.

I don't want us to go exclusively back to that, it is a bit of a relic after all. But hell I think at LEAST 10 snaps per game we should get under center. We seem to run MUCH better out of it, in general, than the gun and it helps big time with play action. And now that it is considered old, nobody is doing it so it's likely harder to defend. I would be absolutely giddy to see us with a fullback every now and then other than the times we stick a big lineman there in blocking formation like we did saturdya. Can't even count how many times JT wall/jeremy thomas/brannan southerland/shaun chapas/etc etc were wide open to catch a little 3 yard pass play off of play action from the I.

I feel like we ran out of the I formation and ran a pin and pull sweep with 84 lead blocking on our first TD

Beck should've kept the ball and scrambled to the right since everyone was expecting the dive.
