Do yall have anything serious you want to talk about, regarding football?
I don't like the fair catch rule on kickoffs, but I understand it's all for player safety.
I think zone counter when the safety is walking up during the snap count to the strong side is a good idea, until the safety bails and they blitz the corner from the weak side.
With all of the zone defense being played, why don't you see more flood plays with a wheel route behind it?

Great title for the rant.
I’m sure this will spur intellectual debate and ideation.
I’ll be by the fire in the salon drinking bourbon.

I don't like how the fair catch rule was abused by a UNT player against Arkansas.

I agree.

Because of my lack to access to games/commentary, I don't know a lot of football terms. What's a flood play and a wheel route?

Targeting needs a makeover. Maybe add “launching” or “spearing” as a 15 yard penalty and no ejection

In zone defense, a defender has a responsibility to a certain part of the field in pass coverage. He's not assigned a man to cover, that would be man coverage. He's assigned a zone, a section, of the field that's his responsibility. On offense, a flood play is when you recognize they are in a zone coverage so you send 2, 3+ receivers into that zone where there's only one defender. Another term for a flood play is "zone beater".
A wheel route also has different names, but it's when a player, usually a running back, or another eligible receiver, stutters in pass protection for a second or two for the receivers to haul arse downfield and bring defenders with them, then he hauls arse out behind them with nobody to cover him.
You can youtube many examples of this for visual references.

Thank you!
So they probably don't flood a zone because...?

anyone who fakes an injury should not be offered any protection
in other words sweeping the leg should be legal against the acting player
If they want to cheat then they need to really get hurt

This has turned rather nicely into a rule change thread.

I’d recommend watching the Manning Cast for Monday Night Football, and finding Belichick’s and Gruden’s YouTube channels. They’ve helped me learn a lot more of the X’s and O’s.

I don't know. It works on Techmo Bowl and NCAA Football, the legacy edition.

Salons are rooms of a more civilized time where men drank brandy and debated the topics of the day.
I’m sorry your poor Alabama education is not working.
You should know what a salon is because most of the slave mansions in the south had them.
Not a hair salon you douche.

Cereally?
100/100 times on the Rant somebody’s mistyped “saloon.”
I mean, I dropped a Kenyon Review reference in the other “serious football” thread and nobody picked up on it.

He spelled it correctly.
Google salon + brandy.
