Projecting 12 Team Playoff

After reading miscellaneous posts about the 12 team playoff, I'm not convinced people understand the format completely. Link below to NCAA published format. Suggest that everyone read and refresh from time to time, hopefully before posting nonsense.
Maybe this might become stickied when we get to week 10 or so?

Using AP Poll and speculating what CFP selection teams might be.
BTW, it could be any number of teams at this time for Conference Champions, CFP Selection Committee ranking, etc.
Aggy: I know you're at the top of the SEC standings list currently, but this will work itself out, keep winning.

I'd suggest copying and pasting the article, if possible, or at the very least paste the URL into the name section (you know what I mean?)
Also, I'd recommend suggesting this be sticked around week 10 when it's week 10.

I don’t think so, they officially have to fall under the same rules. They will have to be ranked in the top 9,10 or 11, 12 depending on where the conference champions shake out
And I found this interesting, they will never be eligible for a first round by even if ranked first
First round buys are only for the highest ranked conference champions

FootballF is correct, ND is an independent and can never be seeded higher than 5 unless they join a conference.

The interesting question is if either Army or Navy win out (one will have to lose to the other) do they make the CFP or do you declare that an undefeated military academy (both of which have been beating the brakes off their opponents this year) isn't good enough?

Well, they are both part of the AAC so if one is undefeated, it will be conference champion and automatically get one of the bids right?

It’s unclear, but it seems like if the fifth highest ranked conference’s best team is 40th they would still get in

It is not "unclear". It is very clear. That is how it will work in that scenario.

Notre Dame wanted it this way. That is why they agreed to it. It was their idea.
They want a first round on-campus game. That is a bunch of extra revenue for them. Especially since they don't ever play in a CCG.

There is nothing unclear. The rules are very clear.
The rankings of the top 5 conference champions don't matter. They all get in. That leaves 7 at-large spots that will go to the 7 highest ranked teams that are not conference champions.

Stinger, The reason I started this and posted the rules was in the naive hope that people would read and accept that things are different and clear. I guess it's human nature to try to muddy the water unnecessarily. Sigh. The selection format is clear. Going to be a lot of back and forth "what if'ing" next month.
