An attractive young woman on a flight from Ireland asked the priest beside her, "Father, may I ask a favor?"
Long
"Of course child. What may I do for you?"
"Well, I bought my mother an expensive hair dryer for her birthday. It is unopened but well over the customs limits and I'm afraid they'll confiscate it. Is there any way you could carry it through Customs for me? Hide it under your robes perhaps?"
"I would love to help you, dear, but I must warn you, I will not lie."
"With your honest face, Father, no one will question you," she replied.
When they got to Customs, she let the priest go first. The official asked, "Father, do you have anything to declare?"
"From the top of my head down to my waist I have nothing to declare."
The official thought this answer strange, so asked, "And what do you have to declare from your waist to the floor?"
Father replied, "I have a marvelous instrument designed to be used on a woman, which is, to date, unused."
Roaring with laughter, the official said, "Go ahead, Father. Next please!"

Easily one of the most important battles in the history of the world. People whose only knowledge of Greek history comes from popular entertainment often don't understand how hosed the Greeks were. The disaster at Thermopylae wiped out a good chunk of the Greek hoplites (surprise, there were actually thousands of Greeks who got cut off and destroyed at that battle. The Spartans were a small minority.) and the rich coastal cities like Athens were subsequently sacked and burned by the Persians.
The surviving Greek city states were openly discussing terms of surrender to Persia, yes that includes Sparta, in the hope that they could retain some level of local control and not be razed to the ground. Which wouldn't have worked because Xerxes was determined to make an example of Greece to the rest of his vast empire.
And then the Greek fleet, comprised mostly of Athenian vessels, landed a crushing knockout blow at Salamis where they destroyed the bulk of the Persian navy. Which meant that not only did the Greeks have control of the sea (and the potential to land forces behind the Persians) they also removed the primary source of supply for Xerxes and his army.
The Persians left a small blocking force behind and desperately retreated back to Persian lands. That blocking force and large amount of the Persian army were either wiped out in combat or starved to death. It was so bad that the Greeks managed to counterattack into Persian lands. Fortunately for the Persians the Greeks made the mistake of putting the Spartans in command of the ground forces and they did such a poor job of managing things Sparta was kicked out of the alliance and the Greeks eventually retreated back into their own lands.
Sparta showed its annoyance by chaining their military leadership up and letting them publicly die by starvation.

I love Sam’s and Costco! Although I don’t buy meat in stores so my perspective is rather skewed. :) I like to get pens and random shite there.
