Is there any heat on Mark Richt> Guy is a great person but he cannot seem to put it together. Every year Georgia underachieves. I scoffed @ the idea that UGA was the hottest team last year nonsense. The same thing could have been said about LSU after beating Notre Dame the year before. The truth was Hawaii was just that bad. I cannot understand how UGA has so much talent every year and they can't play consistently all season. I was sure that UGA could beat Bama @ home. I even argued for them. People said Saban will have Bama ready; Richt won't. Pretty much sums up the tenure of his career. Thoughts?

They lost numerous players to injuries on their defensive side so I don't think there is much heat on him. Dawgs played lazy all year just doing enough to win many games, just like the Bowl Game this year against Michigan State. I mean the alternative could be worse they could bring back Goff.

Everybody has injuries. What was their reason for losing to Tenn. & SC last year? It just seems like it's always something.

No.

Richt has been at UGA for 8 years.

2002, 2003, 2005, 2007 = Overachieved
2004, 2006, 2008 = Undereachieved
2001 = About as expected

That's just the truth, no gloss.

UGA started 3 Freshman and 2 Sophs on OL at the beggining of this year..then 3 of them got hurt..we lost 19 players to season ending injuries

I'd sum his career up like this:

82-22 in 8 years (46-18 in SEC).

-2 SEC Championships (2002, 2005)
-4 SEC East Championships (2002, 2003, 2004*, 2005) *UT won tiebreaker and reped SEC East in SECC.

6-2 in bowls (2-1 in BCS bowls)

5 Top 10 finishes (so far..don't think we will be this year, but...)

Why the hell would their be any heat on Mark Richt, iyo?

This question seems to come up here frequently, there was a big thread on it yesterday, so I will be short with my answer.

Is there heat: NO. He has averaged 10 wins a year for 8 years, won multiple SEC titles, recruits like crazy and has been a fixture in the top 10.

Will there be heat if we have a repeat of this year (porous defense, lack of competitiveness in big games, which is not something that usually happens, and offensive issues in the red zone) in the future, yes. However, a guy that cranks out 10 wins repeatedly has bought a certain amount of slack.

Damn, there were like 4 threads on this yesterday. Why do LSU fans hate Mark Richt?

There is no doubt he is a good coach. However, against Meyer & Saban he looks lost. They way UGA is recruiting they should have a national title. They are on par with FLA. & LSU in recruiting. It just doesn't seem to transcend to the field.

Last 3 UGA-LSU games

45-16
34-14
52-38

I post this not as a jab at LSU, but to answer the question posed.

He has the USC situation where they lose a game or so they shouldn't every year.

He has handled LSU well but I think there have been some slip up to Tennesee and South Carolina?

How many national titles does Richt have?

That's right I forgot. Meyer waxed us worse than anyone and we never question his abilities.

Miles-1
Saban-1
Meyer-1 on cusp of 2nd
Fulmer-1
Spurrier-1
Tubberville-14-0

Come on Richt time to step up and play with the big boys.

So Miles is one of the "big boys" because he won a NC with 2 losses, but Richt isn't because he went 12-1 in a year with 2 undefeated teams? This makes perfect sense.

Good point but let's remember he is a disciple of the coach who always has seemed "lost," Bobby Bowden.

Different years & different teams my friend. That's like saying LSU shouldn't count Richt beating us in the 2004 game because we played something like 11 straight weeks (Hurricane Katrina ring a bell?). Or the fact 2 years ago, we beat Ark. but they still went because they didn't have to play Fla. in reg. season.

And Miles beat a Tenn. team that beat UGA last year with a QB in his second start. Oh wait a second, according to UGA fans if you have injuries that's an excuse. Step up Richt and quit being a p#$$y

I'm just glad we got past you acting like this was an attempt at legit discussion. If you just wanted to post flames about Mark Richt..you could try and atleast be funny or creative..

Well thats the thing. He is one of my favorite ppl in college football. Great father and great man. I have always pulled for the DAWGS against anyone except the Tigers. I lost a lot of respect for him with all the whining about not being in the NC. He was inadvertently discrediting what LSU did last year. So, I took a step back and said lets see you do it this year. If you do, you probably had a case for being in the discussion even though you didn't win the EAST. Preseason #1 & flop.

It's true..this year was disappointing. You should know how we feel..yall went from #5 to 5 losses this year...it happens.

Richt is an excellent coach. You can have your flame thread back, I'm sorry I tried to answer your question in a serious manner.

He was lobbying for his team. There's nothing wrong with that.

Miles did the same thing with the "we never lost in regulation argument" which is retarded. I think Miles is a huge tool and a very average coach, but I can't hold it against him for lobbying.
