The competition will be better. One thing that might give OU an advantage is we keep coaches longer and get some continuity.

But NIL will change the game once we have salary caps. Mini NFL basically. The bad side is college free agency will see more players leaving as teams cap out. The good side is with cap you will sign someone and know they stay for the term of the contract.

That will put tons of pressure on talent evaluation....can't waste limited resources on a bust.

The challenge is some freshman want to start but need development. Will they hang around long enough to get it or chase the money.

I think the SOUL program will help OU as its a full life development not just football and parents see it and will help their kids to see it too. I think the programs BV has set up will give us an edge. You will have more roster movement but maybe less than others. Continuity is helpful for team as you fine tine playbooks.

I don't evnvy coaches having to always recruit their rosters and try to coach...those players that come in to relieve starters seem like they will be the hardest to convince to stick around.

I think one thing that isn’t emphasized enough is that OU will just be another big game on the schedule for most SEC teams, and certainly not the biggest.

In the Big 12, teams definitely circled OU and Texas games and you bet the coaches put in weeks of work to prepare for each. That won’t be the case in the SEC.

The competition will improve but we won’t have a bunch of teams putting an inordinate amount of time preparing for us. Teams just won’t be able to do that.

Also, OU and Texas are not Alabama and Georgia but this conference just got a lot better. Things are going to be tougher for everyone, sure that step up is more drastic for us but most teams will see more losses than they are used to (on average).

I will add to this that A&M and Missouri talk incessantly about how we are in for a rude awakening. Ignoring the fact that both were pretty successful their first year in the SEC, Missouri for at least a couple of years.

I think a lot of this talk is self serving. As fans they want to believe that they are a far stronger program than their Big 12 counterparts. A&M has certainly stepped up recruiting. Missouri isn’t bringing home any top 10 classes.

But, anyway, neither were teams that everyone circled when in the Big 12. They have no experience being the hunted.
