HOWEVER........I believe Tennessee has first rights to claim the "UT" designation, not Texas.

In 1986 the University of Tennessee and the University of Texas agreed to share the well-known interlocking “UT” trademark that both schools use. Tennessee applied for registration of the trademark for the sale of jewelry, paper, metal and leather goods, as well as printed matter, housewares, glassware, and clothing. Texas owned registration of the trademark for educational and entertainment goods. Tennessee’s and Texas’s trademarks are different but similar enough to cause confusion to manufacturers, who have used them interchangeably in the past. The agreement gave Texas commercial rights to the trademark west of the Mississippi River and Tennessee the rights east of the Mississippi and in West Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana (home of LSU).

SUMMARY
Texas owned the trademark for some things.
Tennessee applied for the trademark for other things.
They mutually agreed to both use it.

This isn't complicated.. but then there is this..

7 SEC states say Texas is UT
5 SEC states say TN is UT
37 other states think Texas is UT
Maine apparently abstained from voting..

As for what I want you to call us..
Texas
UT
tu
Texass
TX
UTa
UTrans
something else..

Makes no difference to me.. even if we all decided on one way.. some would still call Texas UT and some would still call Tennessee UT..

It's a stupid fricking argument either way.

Sensible argument....like the graph, very interesting.

A similar argument arose back in 2009 when USC (University of Southern California) sued USC (University of South Carolina) over the trademark use of 'USC' on athletic apparel, etc.

THE USC won (Southern California) and to this day, South Carolina is prohibited from putting 'USC' on any apparel, hats, etc.; however, they may use 'SC' but must use different font styling, etc. Sounds silly, but it all has to do with image and....money.

Southern California wins trademark battle against South Carolina

Where did you find this ridiculous map at?

All that matters is what we think here in the SEC considering we are a founding member.

You are taking the back seat to us so get used to it. This would have been much easier for you had you joined back during our dark ages when Hamilton was still our AD and hired kiffin followed by dooley, butch and Pruitt . Well... Fulmer brought in pruitt but you get the point.

Heupel hates Texas naturally and will be sure to make a statement when we meet.

Oklahoma is welcome to the SEC but not another shitty arse overrated brokeback mountain state school though.

Actually i kind of like the Aggies... it's just Texas that i don't like. So frick all you austin losers.
