I'm a very big gymnastics fan, but not so much college gymnastics. Gymnasts are the best pure athletes. What they do is unmatched anywhere else in sport. But your point is solid - for years I thought the talk about the 'sexualization of gymnasts' was nonsense, but it's real. That said, there are plenty of legit male fans of gymnastics, both the men and women.
This is McKayla Maroney in 2012 at the London Olympics. It's the best vault in history, IMO. A male gymnast did the same vault and you see the comparison here. She's far higher, landing is better etc. It's incredible that humans do this.

okay. First, that is crazy subjective. I would say some of the swimming events are "unmatched anywhere else in sports." Also, the specific example you gave, is someone who used 4 pieces of technology to assist them (the runway, the springboard, the horse and padded landing). I'm not saying gymnast aren’t athletes, but they are not even close to the "best pure athletes"This post was edited on 4/21/24 at 9:54 am
