While at BYU and NIL, I guess it would be hard to give kids $ while having 10 wives to buy handbags for.

I'm not familiar with his recruiting style, but I suspect initially he will rely on the portal a lot, recruit 4* guys who will stay 2-3 years, and I think that has proven to be the recipe that wins in March. I'm okay with it, even though it's not the splash hire people wanted and expected.
He's a revered player at UK and will get the support from the fan base in due time.

But the same teams in that conference are getting the same type of players. Also he could have won the WAC, and the best he could do is make it to 3 CBI tournaments, and finish 2nd a couple times.

If anything NIL should be helping BYU. They will always get their fair share of LDS recruits but do you have any idea how much wealth the church, university, and alumni possess? It would make any non-Texas SEC state school blush.
