Connecticut is drab, sad, and abysmal.
Alabama may be poor, but it's green and beautiful and has some of the most fertile soil and potable water in the country.

Same for Delaware, RI, and New Jersey.
It’s giant urban sprawl with a few square miles of rural area pretty for a few weeks in the fall.
I’m no fan of Alabama relatively but it’s a much more geographically diverse and beautiful state than most NE outside of certain areas of rural MA, NH, ME, and Vermont that nobody lives in.
