U dub made it to the national championship this past year, TCU did it the year before. Think either of those programs outspent anyone or stacked top 5 recruiting classes for years? There's much more to success than assembling the best players. (or perceived best players, recruiting services and coaching staff evals aren't foolproof) Even though nobody will admit it, sometimes sheer luck is involved...ball bounces left instead of right in a single game and it all goes poof.
