A bit surprising. He was a smart kid - apparently had his bachelor’s and masters degrees before the start of his senior year.

Smart does not overcome violence. Unfortunately a lot of young college kids think going to school or getting a degree makes them a "good person"

It just makes you educated. You can still be stupid and violent. Which it appears he is
